Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
As STAR TREK NEMESIS prepares to cross the $40 million mark in the domestic market this weekend, the film opened wide to audiences in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland today after previews yesterday. The BBC has covered the release, recommending the picture in its review by Richard Allen Greene and an article chronicling the longevity of the franchise.
"It is a fitting send-off to probably the best of the five different Star Trek crews to have appeared on the small scene since Captain Kirk's premiere in 1966," Greene writes. "As with the original 1960s TV series, the new film grapples with issues confronting contemporary society, searching for a humane perspective on difficult questions."
Greene praises the final act of the film, saying it delivers with spectacular visual effects even while staying true to STAR TREK's histor: "In true Star Trek fashion, the Enterprise crew would rather talk than fight, but that does not - luckily for action fans - avert a climactic final space battle."
Concluding that the final moments of the picture might border on the "maudlin," Greene nonetheless recommends NEMESIS to UK audiences: "Overall, however, Nemesis compares well to other Star Trek films."

In a related article, writer Darren Waters looks at the STAR TREK franchise and its history, reminding readers that Gene Roddenberry faced even tougher challenges just getting STAR TREK off the ground in the mid-Sixties and then revived ten years later. Waters says the ebb of interest in the franchise, evidenced by lower ratings and box office performance in recent years, may simply be another bump in the road.
"Ultimately it is about money - if Star Trek: Nemesis and TV series Enterprise fail to bring in the dollars the axe could fall on the franchise once more... But even if that were to happen, it is never wise to write off the crew of the Enterprise," he concludes.

Yawn, what a pile of tripe that film was. I hate to sound harsh but it was, come on. It was obvious after the first few lines spoken by the cast that the writer was on the ever too familar trek crawl to hell. I was so disappointed I almost, well why lie? I did in fact make several phone calls and/or Text messages to friends relaying my horror. I'm not going to go into details since I don't see the point in stating the films obvious faults, of which there are one hundred and thirty three.
What a way to end it all, and mark my words with a hilariously shaped pen this will be the last film. I knew that Star Trek had succumb to the all mighty American dollar but I didn't expect it to buckle and die quite so undramatically. Not a bang nor a wimper, just an unmemorable change in air pressure as I and a few hundred other fools left the cinema to start our new lives. Rest in anything but peace those you O.K.'d this film (and Enterprise).
Frell, it's only a T.V. show. No one forced me to watch it, no one wasted my money on this picture, no ones evertually guilty of one of the larger false advertising crimes in recent months. Well not completly false.
Shucks, time for a cup of tea.

An idea?

I wonder what would happen if they released NEM again in Feb. Stick in some deleted scenes (i.e. Picard & Data and a glass of wine), put more ads on TV and see what happens. It's happened before ... some films are sometimes re-released if the studio feels the film didn't get a fair chance at the box-office. One example is WONDERBOYS. Let's face it -- releasing 5 days before LOTR was a dumb idea. Frankly, I think a re-release could bring in some more cash. There's not much competition in Jan. and Feb.

I thought that Star Trek: Nemesis was a teriffic movie! I still do not understand why it did so bad on opening day(If anyone knows please let me know!)? I am a true Star Trek fan!
I have seen the movie (as of 1/3/03 at 9:14p.m.) 21 times! I feel that I could see it another 21 times! It's that good!
Tell the critics to go to hell and make up you own mind!
Star Trek-Nemesis is the best film of '02! (Better than star wars!)

You never know. If it does great overseas we may yet get another film with the TNG cast. At least the releases there is not hindered by lousy reviews and 5 days until the LoTR like it was here in the US. One can only hope and go see the movie again :)

My thoughts

Hi folks,
Well, after seeing Nemesis three times, twice at the previews yesterday, and once tonight I think I can now form some sort of opinion about it.
I thought the movie was quite fantastic, not without, ofcourse, some minor shortfalls. Some of the things I liked the most:
Patrick Stewart - as good as it gets for him I think. I especially liked his performace at the reception after the wedding and his scenes with Tom Hardy were impressive.
Tom Hardy - what a fine, young actor in the making - I loved his sarcastic wit and what he said, "I was lonely" and "Get out of my sight!"
Space/Bridge scenes - Don't have the comment on the visual effects really. 10/10 - this is the first film where I have actually like the Enterprise E. Some minor changes to the CGI model since Insurrection were spot on. I thought the upside down warp jump was well cool! I liked how many bridge scenes there were, with most of the crew there together. I thought in the previous TNG movies not enough action had occured on the bridge with most of the crew there. Maybe Generations, and the crashing of the Enterprise D, is not too far behind, but Picard was not there. To be honest, the crashing of the Enterprise D has left a sour taste on the pallete since 1994.
The soundtrack - I did like the opening music and thought the soundtrack was quite original, whilst throwing in the odd fanfare from previous films/series. The electrical sound was good and I liked the louds beats... like when Data is cut off mid-sentence while saying that the uplink to Starfleet Cartography and all communi-, are down.
One last thing. I liked the fact that we got to see the buttons that people were pressing when firing weapons or engaging the engines. That made me smile.
Now my criticisms, although nothing major, there are more than I would wish for (when I sleep at night I dream about the *perfect* Star Trek movie that becomes the biggest grossing movie ever.... I can dream can't I?!!):
The pacing - As already mentioned by several people, I thought the pacing of the movie in the latter 1/3 of the movie through to the end of the 2/3 of the movie was a little under par. I did find myself just a little bored with so much dialogue within a 40/50 minute period, and wondered how non-hardened Trekkers/non-fans in the same cinma as me were coping!
The B-4 ending - Now, I didn't find B-4 that bad, he did make me laugh a few times and it was good to see Brent doing something different, i liked it better than the "crazy" Data with the emotion chip, in Generations. But the ending really bugged me. So, it seems (I could be proven wrong), Data's memories might start to fire up in B-4 and we could have Data back. Yay! Except that sort of undermines the whole nature of his sacrifice. Picard knew he would die when he got over there. When Shinzon had died he had given up all hope and couldn't find his phaser. When Data went over, he knew he would die, along with Geordi just before he ran out of the breach. It was sad to see Data go, after seeing him for 15 years, but if he was going to die I think it should have been final. Full stop. (Period for you Americans!!)
Deletion of scenes - I wasn't too sure whether to put this down or not because I'm not too sure whether it is my right to talk about deleted scenes. I did not have any part in making the movie. I wasn't the Director, Producer and I didn't write the Screenplay. I do not decide how to make a movie, I simply watch them. But I decided to say a little something about it in the end. I think maybe one or two scenes here and there being left in (well, I say left in but the Nemesis we see on the screens is the final product, any other scenes would technically be extra scenes) would not have harmed the movie at all. Maybe 10 minutes extra, just enough to have a few character moments for the Trekkers. Now 48 extra minutes of footage may not be bad for a Trekker, but I don't think the general audience would like that and would have been OK with 10 minuts more. Now, Paramount need to think hard about the DVD - that could still make Nemesis a hit, IF THEY DO IT RIGHT.
Well, sorry if I've drabbled on for a bit. Please feel free to criticise/support what I have said in any way!

How would you rate the latest ENT episode, THE CATWALK, on a scale from 1 (bad) to 10 (excellent) in comparison to the best and the worst episodes of all previous Star Trek episodes?
