Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
Variety reports that while THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS continues to reign supreme in its third week of release in the United Kingdom, STAR TREK NEMESIS managed to take the number two spot in its debut with more than $3.2 million in 425 theatres.
"Despite its blah domestic results, "Star Trek Nemesis" drew plenty of trekkies in Blighty, beaming up more than $3.2 million on 425, a solid second trailing the Hobbits' third adventure," the trade writes.
This opening comes in below that of INSURRECTION in 1998, which took in £2.706m on 405 screens four years ago according to data at the iMDB. In today's conversion rates that translates to roughly $4.3 million dollars.
Check out this page for the Variety story and MSN Money for the current exchange rates. Thanks to 'Cyrus' for the link!
Update 1/7: Variety has amended its report to indicate that the actual box office total fell below the initial estimate and now stands at $3.07 million. Whether this keeps NEMESIS in the #2 spot for the weekend behind LOTR, is not known from the Variety report. (Thanks to 'Cyrus').

DEAR PARAMOUNT

Hello There..
A letter writing campaign cannot be ignored if the same ideas are put forward. I am suggesting that all concerned fans email editor@startrek.com or television@pde.paramount.com and copy and paste this text in your email:
Dear sirs and madams,
I am a member of the devoted fanbase of the Star Trek franchise. While not as numerous as the weekly watchers of other programs, we are dedicated and loyal fans who watch and rewatch the shows, pay for tickets to the movies, and purchase DVDs and paraphenalia in numbers that outshine any major television entity, and ranks up there with the most successful feature films.
Unfortunately, it seems that the producers of the franchise have lost touch with the fanbase of Star Trek. While many of us still tune in, it is easy to see how the numbers are decreasing.
Fortunately, there is a solution to this problem. In terms of "Enterprise", the fanbase (which is large.. look at the numbers for The next Generation") is less interested in Sex and effects, and more interested in Storylines that develop characters not only as they are, but that develop the characters in a forward moving way. Stagnation has been the problem, and allowing characters to grow and change in their personal situation and in their relationships will solve this problem. In terms of the movies, we are lessinterested in Action, and more interested in development of characters in moral conundrums, that tightly filmed action sequences lend themselves to. Keep in mind that the most popular episodes of "The Next Generation" managed to take place almost exclusively on the ship.
The advantage to you is that such episodes and movies will cost less to produce, bringing you a higher profit, while allowing the fans to bacome attached to the show. Analyze what works about 24, ER, CSI, even Friends. Characters grow and change. VIP had plenty of sex and action, and failed.
Thank you for your attention,
(Insert Name Here)

There is a minor update from a new article in Variety, Nemesis ended slightly below the previous estimate:
Embarking on its foreign voyage, domestic misfire "Star Trek Nemesis" beamed up a promising $3.07 million on 426 in the U.K., which ranks alongside Germany as the trekkies' strongest offshore territories.

Saw Nemesis last night here in the UK and absolutely loved it.
I've read lots of reviews calling it a rehash of TWOK, but I didn't get that feeling at all, and after all if a rehash of TWOK means that there's a baddie, some new weapons technology and a death, there must be hundreds of sci-fi films that fall into this category.
I thought the film was paced about right, certainly if it had been any longer it would have dragged at some points. While I'm looking forward to seeing the deleted scenes on DVD, I agree that they shouldn't go back in the movie.
I'd like to think that Paramount won't judge the TNG movie franchise solely on the box office performance of Nemesis. If this is the last TNG movie, personally I'd like to see a series of TV movies or a miniseries following the adventures of Riker and Troi on the Titan. They showed with shows like All Good Things that they can pull off ambitious stories on a TV budget. At least one duff TVM in a series of four or five won't destroy the franchise like a poor theatrical release could.
Well done to everyone involved in Nemesis - this is one fan who really enjoyed watching it.

Still too close to LOTR - all round they've made a big mistake. They should have steered clear of this film if they wanted impressive #1s to put on their ads. But #2 isn't bad - however lower than Insurrection is. Like I've said all along Paramount, you should have got trailers in cinemas - THAT'S how you promote a movie. :/

How would you rate the latest ENT episode, DAWN, on a scale from 1 (bad) to 10 (excellent) in comparison to the best and the worst episodes of all previous Star Trek episodes?
