Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

The first-run presentation of ENTERPRISE's "Dawn" last night turned in an appropriately ambiguous January performance for UPN. Holding firm to match the last new episode of 2002 ("The Catwalk"), "Dawn" earned a 4.2/6 in the overnight numbers according to MediaWeek's Marc Berman, nearly replicating the 4.2/7 turned in by its predecessor on December 18th (the overnight for "Catwalk" was adjusted from 4.5/7 to 4.2/7 according to The Futon Critic Ratings Tracker).
The share, or percentage of households watching television last night, fell by one percent but the good news is that two weeks of repeats had a minimal negative impact on "Dawn." Unfortunately, even without another drop, these two episodes rank among the lowest on the season. In fact, only "Vanishing Point" scored a lower overnight rating (3.4/5) due to the pre-Thanksgiving Day dip. "Dawn" ranks below "Precious Cargo" (4.5/7) and everything else in season two, along with its companion "The Catwalk."
The eight o'clock hour was dominated by CBS's series premiere of the new STAR SEARCH (9.4/14) and ABC's comedy line-up. ENT handily beat the WB's repeat offering of BIRDS OF PREY (2.9/4). UPN took the fifth spot overall on the night with an average of 3.3/5, well ahead of the WB's 3.0/4. NBC won overall with a #2 THE WEST WING (11.3/16) behind ABC's THE BACHELORETTE debut (11.6/17). Berman lists ENTERPRISE's lead-out, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, as one of the night's "losers."

A Bright & Shining Dawn

I really liked this episode. The alien was well convceived and consistent. Instead of being just a human with a bumpy face, his behavior seemed fully consistent with his biology.
The bonding through conflict was well-written and nicely played. The beginning of Federation values continued here, with the humans showing they could behave in ways that went beyond the mere competitive drive for survival.

Was it just me or did any of you get the feeling that this had shades of the old Dennis Quaid quasi-entertaining movie "Enemy Mine"? Even the damn alien looked like the alien that Louis Gossett Jr. Played(course they don't have the weird sex overtones in this episode like in the movie that were between the alien and Quaid

notice how...

notice how many people say this episode was like Darmok? When infact, it couldn't be far from it.
Remember the episode with Odo and Quark, where they end up on the planet, and they have to climb to the top of the mountain to send the signal to save themselves?
THAT was more like Dawn then anything.
But again, all Trek can really do now is rehash old stories and change things. There isn't much left to INVENT in Sci-Fi. Frankly this episode was good, as it showed the humans doing something better than the Vulcans, it opened up communications between the two species and it also furthered Trip's character.
Enough said.

What's This About

The episode is not an abandonment of the original premise of Enterprise. This episode is right on track. "Dawn" is what Enterprise is all about, or should be about. The Temporal Cold War is in fact a detraction from the premise of the show. This show is about the first steps into space, the struggles of first contact, how the human race got from the chaotic society we are now to the point of social understanding and tolerance that is Gene Roddenberry's vision of the future. Yes, the show as a whole has not focused well on this premise, but this episode is a step in the right direct. I could go on for days about how the show on the whole hasn’t realize it’s true potential. Hell, I could just pull my hair out after episodes like “Marauders”, “The Communicate”, “Vanishing Point” & “Precious Cargo”. Yes the series is floundering unnecessarily. I say unnecessarily because the solution is simple, look at the mission, the goals of the show and there is your answer. But “Dawn” is an episode that delivers that answer. Mentioning the Temporal Cold is evidence that we American bastards are spoiled, we aren’t happy unless guns are blazing and red shirts are dropping like flies. Yes I agree that this far into the series and no one has died is miserable. For god sakes space should be perilous. But this episode does not need death and destruction to entertain. The hostile tension between the two key players carries the drama. I say give this episode a second look on Sunday night. Look with different eyes. See the real reason for Trip staying with the alien. It was not for new comrades, it was for the sake of first contact. It was for the sake of establishing peaceful relations. For the sake of exploration.
No, I agree Preparation H does feel good.... On the hole.

Good episode

Dawn was a good episode. Yes, it had a mix of elements from prior Trek episodes. Nevertheless, the narrative was tight, and Connor Trinnear's acting was first rate.
Enterprise is in a rut, as so many others have said before. Often the rut is comfortable and provides good entertainment, but it's still a rut. By abandoning the initial premise of Enterprise, B&B have doomed the series to an unimaginative run of adequate, but not truly great, episodes. The show is uninspiring.
I long for the days of TNG and DS9 -- Trek at its finest.

Nothing new in this ep. Relatively enjoyable but this is the bold new direction they've been speaking of?
They should consider abandoning stand alone eps and let the temproal cold war carry this series to it's end. It's a compelling idea that deserves to be further explored, not left for the occasional sweeps stunts and season finales.

Not because of the Holiday

So many people were convinced that it was due to the Holidays that the ratings were down.
They are over and still sliding.
As much as people want to push the blame on the Holidays or competition the underlying fact is, is that it is due to the over all quality (or lack there of) of the show.
Time for restructuring. I feel that this is the only thing that will save Enterprise and the franchise.

...the real reason that people aren't watching anymore is the show just isn't that exciting anymore. There's only two shows that really pique my interest in the next couple of months.

This is sad. Two of the people posting on this thread haven't really seen the ep. yet and the one that did can only nitpick a minute issue. This was a great episode. More people should have tuned in. The episode is very 1985's Enemy Mine by Wolfgang Peterson. The film was great regardless of the low budget effects and cheesy space craft designs. The episode was on per too, with great space effects. The alien ship was a new and fresh design. The dynamic chemistry between the two key players was excellent. This was a uniquely ENTERPRISE episode. And a strong story of first contact. The aliens were not just creature features of the week. They will be future alllies. You could really see the Federation rising on the horizon as Dawn approached. This was GREAT first contact. Roxann Dawson is two for two on this episode. First Dead Stop and now Dawn, Berman give this woman a full-time job. Great Episode.
