Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses, bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices, check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away from home.

Dept: Enterprise | stenterprise.com

Executive producer Rick Berman speaks in the latest issue of Britain's STAR TREK MONTHLY magazine on a number of ENTERPRISE and NEMESIS issues, including the future appearance of more ORIGINAL SERIES aliens in the latest TREK project.

"That's actually been discussed," Berman says specifically about the Gorn, a fan favorite from TOS. "There was a time I did not think we'd see the Andorians on Enterprise, and we've since done a number of episodes with them. In fact, the episode with Suzie Plakson is an Andorian episode and she's playing one of our Blue-Skinned beauties. Jeffrey Combs, who's done a number of roles on our shows, is in that episode with Suzie. So the Gorn are certainly a possibility."

Berman has often been cited as the reason few STAR TREK outtakes or bloopers have ever seen the light of day. But with a new ENTERPRISE blooper special airing on UPN this month, the producer says it's untrue.

"It's wrong to say I'm opposed to such things. I have been opposed to gag reels simply because Star Trek is something that always borders on the silly," he explans. "You've got actors walking around in prosthetic masks. You've got people flying at impossible speeds and spaceships defying gravity. You've got a lot of things that are accepted, but that are almost scientifically ridiculous. It's so easy to turn it into a parody. I've been asked to put together an Enterprise blooper reel for a CBS project, and I agreed to do it. So I'm loosening up a little in that area. And a lot of the reason we didn't do blooper reels for The Next Generation was that Patrick was very opposed to them as well."

Berman also says the forthcoming STAR TREK NEMESIS DVD hasn't been finalized, but reinserting excised footage is not exactly a top priority.

"We will not see [some cut scenes] in the first DVD, I don't think, because that's in the works. On the other hand, it might very well happen, as extras, not as footage cut back into the film. I don't think Stuart is crazy about doing it. It's a decision we'll all make and it's not a decision that's been made final yet."

The exec also talks about some of the NEMESIS cut scenes and the possibility of a guest role by VOYAGER guest actress Martha Hackett in excerpts available at Sci-Fi Pulse.

Berman has to go... this guy seems intent on alienating ST fans. Nemesis was a bad movie, its really that simple. It was a contemporary retread of ST:2... in this case the story is focused to Picard and Data, in large part due to the involvement of Stewart and Spiner in the creative process.

Now Berman wants to further inflict hardship on the film and franchise by not cutting footage that may make Nemesis tolerable.

I'm so mad I can hardly type... I really think this guy needs a pink slip!

just a thought...

I've been considering the possibility of the 'death of Trek' as some of you have referred to it since the low turn-out numbers for Nemesis...And I put this in a reply below and have been waiting for the proper subject to post my thoughts...so, I suppose this as good as any. I'm thinking most of you guys may agree.

I am starting to think that the reason Star Trek may be dying is the fantasy and mysticim, the "ah, man, now that's cool" or...how shall I put this...the underlying meaning or the slightest hint/brush of an idea to our subconcious to push us to greater levels of the idea...is gone. And has been for a long time.

Basically, to make us think. Hell, that was The Great Bird's general purpose anyway...he just wanted us as human beings to think.

Am I wrong about this? Was he, like B&B, just grinding out a week to week tv show and it was/is we fans who have made it into something more?

Is this perhaps the basis of our bitchin' and moanin', fussin' and groanin'?...that perhaps our pride of being able and willing to stand up in a group or one-on-one and talk/represent about it being 'more than a tv show'. Yes, even myself. I hate to say it, but I suppose we never will able to go home again. I believe it has really come down to now what they originally feared 'bout TNG: I don't think they will ever be able to top the original.

I was fortunate enough to meet each member of the original cast. I got to talk to each one if only for a moment...yes, even Bill Shatner stopped and genuinely talked to me (guess because I wasn't pushing for a piece of him or an autograph), I got to shake the hands of Jimmy Doohan and De Kelly...dude, De Kelly! I was told by a fellow convention attendee that I made her cry when I didn't ask Majel Barrett a question but thanked her for her personal dedication to we fans and for standing behind her husband in support of his ideas and dreams. These people were/are special to me for breathing life into an idea and then stickin' with us their demanding public.

I'm not patty myself on the back for this...it's just...I don't know. I just don't stand up in a group or with the 'current events at the water fountain' group or the one's who are discussing scifi or science or the positive outlook of the future anymore without the fear of getting laughed at or, like my dad surprised me the other nite after seeing a Nemesis trailer..."they've never been able to top the original". This from a 60+ year old guy who until then I didn't know was a fan.

Thanks. I always appreciate Steve's efforts here and each of your comments.

One of the problems with bringing back every TOS and TNG alien
By Jadziamidala () at 07:20:06 on January 14 2003
URL: | User Info
is it diminishes the idea that Kirk and Picard were the ones who made 1st contact with these beings. Hence, "Where No One Has Gone Before" becomes, "Where Archer Has Been Before". I love the Gorn...they've always been my favorites, but Kirk clearly made 1st contact. There was that "Space legends" line of Spock's, but still...

Rick Berman Open to Gorn Appearance

Sometimes I think Berman talks out of his ass. What's this about not showing bloopers because TREK borders on farce as it is? Any long-term TREK fans knows of TOS "classic blooper reels" and the fun we fans use to have viewing them. The bloopers NEVER effected how we looked at TREK, as a matter of fact, it enhanced our view of the show! What's wrong with this guy? No wonder none of the TV series or movies he produced approached the fun and entertainment of TOS and TOS movies!

...that Berman said is more and more evidence as to why he's unfit to handle Trek. Gorn in the 22nd Century? Bloopers? Minimal DVD extras? No thank you. I'm one Borg appearance away from turning in my Trekker badge.

Sad, but predictable:(

Not adding the deleted scenes to the DVD release is just so unbelievably foolish. The only reason I bought ST:TMP was because of the excellent treatment it received on DVD as I was never a big fan of the film. That DVD was well worth buying BECAUSE it received such a special treatment.

I enjoyed Nemesis, but I will only buy the DVD if more scenes and other extras are included. As with most Trek over the past 10+ years now, one viewing is enough so unless something is added to the Nemesis DVD, Paramount will not get my money.

Back in the glory days of TOS and TNG, I would rewatch episodes all of the time, but today's shows are usually pretty forgettable (and I've been a fan since the early 70's).

What always gets me about any Berman or Braga interviews is that the very points they bring up and usually shoot down are EXACTLY what Trek needs to become fresh and exciting again so this latest comment about not including extra scenes is pretty predictable:(.

I remember reading an interview with Braga a few years ago regarding an upcoming season of Voyager in which he said that there were no plans to do anything different in the coming season. He specifically stated that there would be no significant character changes/development, no new aliens, no character conflicts, etc.! I was incredulous, but there it was in print right before my disbelieving eyes!

I think that at this point, Trek's extremely serious problems are a part of a bigger problem in the entertainment industry as a whole. Industry execs are motivated only by their bottom lines (i.e. money), and they simply aren't willing to take chances. Other problem areas include pop music (all pre-manufactured a la Britney Spears or 'N'Sync), big budget movies (i.e. Independence Day (horrible), Men in Black II, and even the upcoming Kangaroo Jack which looks unbelievably stupid, but will probably make money), and video games (all fancy graphics and very boring or repetitive gameplay).

Will it change anytime? I like to think that things are circular, so we can only hope...In the meantime, I will NEVER buy a Britney Spears CD, I will not go to lame movies, and I have a fun collection of upright video games from the early 80's in my garage that I still love to play (a la Tempest, Robotron, Joust, etc.:)).

Oh yeah, and I won't buy the Nemesis DVD unless you include deleted scenes and other extras...:) Are you listening Paramount? Probably not, huh?:)

Just my 2 cents...

I was talking to a friend a few weeks ago about Enterprise and I said, whats next, The Gorn showing up. I should have known with the Trek franchise almost devoid of original ideas that it was a matter of time before they took another Original Idea and "Copied It." Thanks Berman, you are one step closer to making Trek the Silly show that you have been trying to avoid.
About the DVD. There is a reason the movie didnt do well. How about enlightening the fans??? Give us what we didnt get in the first place.
The film has bombed the Show is horrible and he is still in his little Bubble.
Wake up Berman!!!!

There's nothing wrong with them bringing TOS aliens back. Heck, I might watch it if they did this more.

The Gorn are problematic since Kirk's encounter was a first contact. Avoid.

Yes, it's probably uncreative...yes, it's probably a transparent marketing maneuver...but so what? Any given TOS alien race is more interesting than the myriad bump-heads they've had on there so far. I'd watch just to see those races on TV again in something new and to see how they botch them up :).

At this point they have nothing to lose and possibly an audience to gain.

Rick Berman IS silly.
By Alawi () at 03:41:19 on January 13 2003
URL: | User Info
First of all, if the NEMESIS DVD does NOT have, at the very least, the Data/Picard champagne scene reinserted in the film I will NOT buy the DVD.

Secondly, if Rick Berman thinks STAR TREK borders on the silly its because he and his little stooge Braga created that: mambo dancing, sonic-wallpaper music, joyticks in space, tit and zit jokes, Archer reminiscing about his dog, Hoshi's ghost, Data used as a flotation device, technobabble featuring warp cores, etc etc.

In the old days Trek dealt with serious issues wrapped up in science fiction alleghory; racism, power, violence, ethnic tribalism, etc. The old Trek took itself seriously, whether it was the movies ot tv series. The only Berman ST incarnation that came close to the old Trek was DS9. That was glorious but it prolly had to do more with others than him.

Berman, leave us alone man. Leave us Trekkers, leave the franschise, go peddle your rotten goods elesewhere. Two flop films, commercially and critically, not including the lacklustre GENERATIONS and a weak television show ENTERPRISE and you are still at the helm?

Have some dignity. Leave us be. We don't want you.

Silly !?

I never realized that Star Trek comes close to being silly?? Wow, I take it seriously! If he thinks something about Star Trek is silly, why not change it? The sciencific element should be as realistic as possible, within the boundaries of knowledge we have today. There ARE room for improvement, but the only "silly" thing I can think of, is the universal translator.

The rest of things that appear strange, could simply be our lack of knowledge to understand reality, but that doesn't mean it's impossible.. No I take it very seriously and believe it's scientifically possible! Why should I watch a show for children? Star Trek is not for children.

Trek Bloopers
By BWilliams (BWillNCC1701E@webtv.net) at 21:35:27 on January 12 2003

So Rick Berman is not as keen on Trek bloopers as the fans are, huh? How can he explain the underground popularity of the first season blooper reel that has made the rounds at fan conventions over the years? Or does he remember the time he and Michael Dorn (in a work-in-progress Klingon makeup) mugged for the camera and went "Hi Mom"? For that matter, what does he think about that particular blooper reel? And why was it until TNG's Year 5 DVD set that we got to see the first official appearance of a TNG outtake with Patrick Stewart doing the alphabet song and dance?

Looks like Ricky's got some 'splainin' to do...

Where to start...
By Beamer () at 21:21:23 on January 12 2003

I've never been a B&B basher. I think that they get enough of that here so that I don't need to join the frey. But there are some things here that mystify me.

"There was a time I did not think we'd see the Andorians on Enterprise"....why?

"So the Gorn are certainly a possibility"...I'm not a continuity freek, but uh....that would take some creative scripting gymnastics.

"spaceships defying gravity"...what gravity? And as far as planets, we've been doing that on earth for nearly 100 years.

BUT HE IS ALSO RIGHT ABOUT SOME THINGS...

" Suzie Plakson is an Andorian"...got my vote. I've always like her performances on ST.

"Jeffrey Combs"...should have found a place for him on ENT as a regular in my opinion (Reed maybe?...not that I don't like the current beloved Reed)

"Star Trek is something that always borders on the silly"...personally, I'm glad he realizes that. Overexposing bloopers would 'demystify' the Trek persona enough to make it more difficult to see it as drama, a space opera. If you've ever seen some of the outtakes without the "magic" added, it can be laughable. But if you're a fan, unless you've been exposed to that, it is hard to understand .

"You've got a lot of things that are accepted, but that are almost scientifically ridiculous"...yep.

"And a lot of the reason we didn't do blooper reels for The Next Generation was that Patrick was very opposed to them as well"...anybody remember "Galaxy Quest"? "Give him a hand...he's British..."

"First" DVD?
By Renton () at 20:56:13 on January 12 2003

"We will not see [some cut scenes] in the first DVD..."

Must Paramount (and Berman) continue to want to suck the money out of fans for no other reason than to just do it? It's insulting. The insinuation that there will be a basic, no frills, DVD release prior to a special edition is unbelievably stupid, and insulting to a loyal fanbase. I knew this was coming with the original movies and I didn't buy any of them when they first released. Unfortunately, the special ones really aren't that special (except for the TMP DVD) for Paramounts lack of heart on the matter and just slapping together stuff to make it look like they actually did some work. Now with Nemesis we're going to get the same deal.

Obviously Paramount is clueless with their DVD's as most of them suck and show a lack of any kind of foresight towards the medium during the production of the movie (unlike most other studios which are practically planning and working on the DVD during production). Sure, other studios do it at times but Paramount seems to be more guilty than all. Cheap bastards. But with Trek, in concert with everything else, this is f**king disgraceful. Hit us over the head twice because Trek fans will buy anything!!! Not me. And I hope no one else does either.

Unbelievable.

First off, why was he even thinking NOT to put Andorians in ENT? And before he rejected the Gorn for continuity purposes, saying they rewatched the TOS episode and determined that they simply could not fit in ENT.

Geez, B&B need to stop riding off the aliens of other series and make some of their own, or at least give us some buzz about the Orions.

Nemesis DVD Extra Scenes
By 11001001 () at 15:36:00 on January 12 2003
URL: http:// | User Info
I strongly believe that there are some deleated scenes that should be re-inserted into the DVD Home Video Version.

The scene between Picard and Data after the wedding and the scene between Wrof and Geordi towards the ending (Deleated scenes explained more in article on trek web under 'Nemesis'). If there is going to be another TNG movie the scene of the new first officer should be cut back in(If the same person will be available). If there is not going to be another TNG movie the scene should be left out.

If you agree with me please write to Paramount to tell them what the fans want!
