Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
STAR TREK NEMESIS slipped from #2 to #4 over the weekend in the United Kingdom, according to Box Office Mojo, bringing in $1,300,384. This represents a 59% decline from its opening weekend performance of $3,147,661. In just two less theatres this week, the tenth TREK film came in below THE TWO TOWERS in its fourth week of release at #1 and THE TUXEDO (#3) and GANGS OF NEW YORK (#4), which both debuted last Friday.
The last STAR TREK film managed to hold the #1 spot for two weeks in a row, bringing in a total of about $8 million by its second week. By contrast, NEMESIS has earned nearly $5.4 million to date. The newest TREK remains consistent, maching INSURRECTION's 59% 2nd-weekend drop, according to data at the Internet Movie Database.

Will Nemesis show a profit?

With this news, it is doubtful that Nemesis will recover its production and marketing costs even with foreign distribution revenues included in the final tally. The only financial salvation may lie in revenues from DVD sales, but I doubt that such sales will generate even a marginal profit for poor Nemesis.
It's a shame. I'm becoming very concerned that Paramount's response to these numbers and Enterprise's ratings decline will be either to dumb down the product even more or stop production of Star Trek movies and television shows altogether. I love TNG and Star Trek in general. I feel like the franchise is withering away right before my eyes.
Do you think I'm being overly pessimistic?

The film itself isn't the problem. It's a good Star Trek film. The general public, worldwide it seems, is just tired of Trek. And who can blame them. There's just too much of it out there and it's saturated the media continuously for so many years now. There's been no breather. For many, Nemesis is just more of the same. If the powers that be complain that Trek is its own worst enemy because it's competing with itself, than they have no one to blam but themselves. Spin-off after spin-off after spin-off. It's become more about commerce than art and the public and fans have caught on to that agenda. The franchise needs a long rest.

Damn. I was so hoping that the UK would be able to pull up the numbers.
Hopefully it'll do better in the other terrioties (Japan would be a large contributor I assume?).
Shame really, because Nemesis is a great film - far superior to Insurrection and even the Nemesis haters have to admit that.
