Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced
players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the
turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses,
bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near
the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original
Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS
Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all
interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is
superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we
will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices,
check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away
from home. (0 comments | Add)

Last week's first-run presentation of the ENTERPRISE episode "Dawn" was unable to buck the declining trend associated with the first episode after the December holiday hiatus. With a final rating of 2.5 and an audience of 3.99 million, "Dawn" matches the season two low set by "Vanishing Point" the day prior to Thanksgiving (2.5), but was able to haul in more viewers for a second least-watched-episode finish (3.99 vs VP's 3.57) in the 98th spot overall for the week. The rating figure translates as meaning the episode was watched by 2.5% of the television households in the country last week. Both episodes are the only two new installments to register less than four million viewers since the series bowed in September 2001.
The previous first-run episode, "The Catwalk" on December 18th, raked in 4.73 million viewers and a household rating of 3.0. Compared with the year-ago period, "Dawn"'s slip was to be expected. "Silent Enemy" premiered last January 16th with a rating/audience of 3.7/6.11 million, which was one whole ratings point lower than the last December episode of 2001 and over one million viewers less. Things never got much better last season, with the following episode "Dear Doctor" declining further before "Sleeping Dogs" peaked for the entire second half of the season with 6.5 million viewers on January 30th.

Why don't you watch ENT?

To those like me who gave up on the show:
I was wondering the specific reasons for why people stopped watching ENT entirely and which episode was the last straw.
For me, "Broken Bow" was the make-or-break episode. As a pilot, it was responsible for demonstrating what kind of series ENT would be. And as I expected, nothing I wanted to see was to be found. I wanted a competently written SF piece that showed some promise that ENT could be a decent SF series.
While I didn't tune in regularly after BB, I did happen to catch "Dear Doctor", and to my surprise it was exactly the kind of story I wanted: Something that vaguely represented real SF. I tuned in to a handful of episodes after that, but it appeared "DD" was a fluke. Either it was a contrived and unconvincing character "story", or a supposed-to-be-cool-"sci-fi" episode that any self-respecting literary SF reader would laugh at.
There are fans of the show, and I respect that. For those people, I don't wish the show cancelled. I just won't watch it.
So... why did YOU stop watching? And which episode made you throw up your hands and reach for the remote?

I have been a life long trek fan but recently it is harder and harder to stay loyal to the franchise. 1 poor tv show, no decent stand alone novels that are not written by Shatner, and a quite frankly piss poor rip-off exibition, and even when paramount do get it right with Nemesis they give it a marketing campaign that looks like they want to kill Trek off.
It is time for radical action.
Stop watching, get paramount to shelve all trek projects and when the
value of trek is at an all time low we fans buy the rights and produce it ourselves....

Why?

Why are the ratings for ENT so low?
It's not becasue of preemtion, it's not because UPN is a young (and failing)network.
It's becasue the show is simply losing fans due to its mediocrity.
I am 26 years old. I have been a Star Trek fan basically my whole life. I watched TOS on reruns after school, I watched TNG, and DS9 religiously; and even through VOY never really did it for me, I would still make an effort to watch. Then came along ENT. and simply put, I don't like it. I just find it to be painfully average.
I would watch an episode and come on this site and coplain like alot of others about how bad it was, until finally I just stopped watching... and I suspect that alot of other fans did too. I had high hopes for this series, but as it is now I don't see it going anywhere. It doesn't seem to have a purpose. From episode to Episode the characters are differnt and un-engaging. There is no development of the story, of it's place in the larger universe. It's just an average sci-fi show getting along by maintaining the status quo.
I demanded more, didn't get it, so I stopped watching, and I think alot of other fans did too.
Without improvement and positive buzz, I just don't see them returning.
Maybe some are thinking that I am not a real Star Trek fan becasue I don't support the series... maybe that's correct, but I felel that following that blind faith of "it will be better season three" is just not acceptable... they have made trek for how many season now? they don't need a 70 episode warm-up. I would rather not watch and rememebr the trek I liked, then sit through a show I don't like and complain about how the name has been ruined.
and I really don't think I am alone in feeling that way...
my 2 cents

Funky Flubs?

Does anyone know how big of a hit (ie, ratings) are for "Funky Flubs"? Maybe you were surprised like me- I was expecting a rerun of an Enterprise episode, or a video showing a discussion of how the decision to make Enterprise was made. Instead, all I got were three tidbits from Enterprise, which weren't even that funny, and the rest was the stars of UPN talking about how great their shows are...

Honestly, if I wasn't a Trekweb regular, I woudn't have known there was a new episode on. "Dawn" was surrounded by reruns on both sides, two before and three after, what the hell were they expecting?

Rumors of Trek's death is greatly exaggerated

I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with the whole "death nell of Trek" talk. In the words of Capt. Picard, "word of Trek's demise has been greatly exaggerated". The episodes of Enterprise have generally been well received, if the Trekpolls are of any indication. Also, how many TV shows out there can have the kind of guarantee that Trek shows seem to have- namely, a guaranteed seven year run? Most other shows are season to season at best. Count on Enterprise to complete its seven year run.

Let's Face Facts

Enterprise is crap.
Plain and simple. It's dull at best and a franchise killer at worst. At least with Voyager everyone had an opinion of it either good or bad but so many of my Trek friends just can't be bothered watching this garbage. I know we all tried watching it and tried to like it but it's just bad.
From the very beginning the concept of Enterprise was not very interesting and whilst some hardcore fans love it, the general public have voted with thier feet and abandonded the show in droves.
I firmly believe this has contributed in a major way to the failure of Nemesis as well. If the casual viewer is bored to death by Star Trek on TV then they will not spend their hard earned dollars to see Star Trek at the movies.
Paramount should cut it's losses and kill it off now before the goose which laid the golden egg becomes well and truly stuffed. It may already be too late.

Put it in perspective

I've written about this before. Most ENT episodes get bounced by sports events in several major markets on the UPN affiliates. Many rebroadcast ENT on the weekends; many viewers use the weekend times to watch ENT - either as the regular time to view or to catch a pre-empted episode. This past weekend was the NFL playoffs (both Sat and Sun games). I had to turn off football to watch ENT. I'm a die-hard fan. Do you really think most average viewers are going to give up playoff football for ENT? So put it in perspective. I would bet that if CBS aired ENT every Wed nite at 8 consistently, the show would have better ratings than what UPN manages to drag in.

The End Of Trek??

Its Paramounts fault for letting it get like this but its Rick Bermans fault for making it like this,I really wanted to like Nemesis but it just sucked!,The Dawn episode of Enterprise was good, but one good episode to a whole season of bad one so far is not good enough.FIRE BERMAN and the rest of the writers and get in a new team that have fresh ideas, plan a new movie with a mixture of casts, dont let the actors write it!!!Star Trek has so much more to offer but its just going in the same direction!I remember when Next Gen and DS9 Began, people were excited, but now the same people line up in there thousands to slam down this damaged Franises. We are the fans,we are the ones that make it like it is,lets do something about it!

More bad news

The bad news for Star Trek just keeps piling up. First, there is the news the Nemesis isn't doing as well abroad financially as hoped. Second, Enterprise's ratings continue to sink like a rock. It's been so long since I've heard anything encouraging about the financial and creative health of the franchise that I'm becoming very discouraged about the state of franchise.
Has there been any positive news lately? If so, I missed it.
