Anthony Montgomery's Shining Moment On the "Horizon" -- Production, Guest Cast Report

PROMENADE

Place an ad today!

Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses, bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices, check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away from home.

The official STAR TREK web site has posted its production report for "Horizon," the upcoming ENTERPRISE featuring Anthony Montgomery's 'Mayweather' in his first prominent role of season two. In the story, Travis visits his old cargo ship while the Enterprise studies astronomical phenomenon. Mayweather's father has recently died and his family could use his help more than ever.

Although much of the episode takes place on new sets built for the Horizon--its bridge, corridors, cargo holds and even Travis' old quarters--one set on the NX-01 we'll see for the first time since the series pilot if the "sweet spot," where zero-g lets Mayweather relax with Captain Archer this time out. The guest cast will include TREK newcomers Corey Mendell Parker as Travis' younger brother 'Paul Mayweather' (acting captain of the Horizon), Joan Pringle as their mother 'Rianna', and DS9 Dabo girl Nicole Forester as Travis' friend 'Nora'.

Montgomery went solo for the majority of the seven-day shoot, with the rest of the cast only requiring three days of work. The episode will feature the computer-generated rendering of the Horizon, which will be similar to the cargo vessel seen in last season's "Fortunate Son."

The episode is slated to air on April 16th and was penned by story editor Andre Bormanis ("The Communicator," "Silent Enemy"). James Contner ("The Communicator") directed. Read more in the original story.

DEDICATE THIS EPISODE -HORIZON

This episode is like a prodigal son story. He return to visit his space faring family. This is the pefect episode to dedicate to the crew of Columbia. At the end of the episode they really should show a crew photo of SC-7 with a dedication header above, and the Elton John song "Rocket Man" playing quietly in the background. I mean it was nice to see the "In memory" header at the beginning of Stigma. But that episode didn't exemplify what NASA aspires space travel to lead us to. This one I think does.

...get this right.

By that I mean that I hope they treat the Mayweather character with some respect and allow for some growth development. Everything else about this show aside, it is unforgiveable to create a character, give it a prominent position as navigator, and then treat it as only weak comic relief.

Anthony Montgomery appears to be a good actor. Give him some good -- heck, great -- material and perhaps people won't feel that he's so useless. I certainly don't think he should be viewed that way, but like many other things in the current Trekverse, that's the way the powers that be have made it seem.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

... but production-wise, isn't this episode number 20 from the season two episodes? Far too long since they've focused this much on Mayweather.

I still remember reading about how they almost dropped Marina Sirtis (and her character, of course) after she didn't appear in a span of something like 10+ episodes in season one of The Next Generation. I guess Anthony Montgomery should count himself lucky.

You think they could develop some of these stories on a rotating basis? Let's see... 26 episodes, 7 characters = approximately three, almost four episodes per character each season. Archer, T'Pol, Trip, Mayweather, Hoshi, Reed, Phlox, Phlox, Trip, Mayweather, Red, Hoshi, Archer, etc. Mix it up a bit, and give everyone equal chances to be the focus. Is it really that difficult?
