PROMENADE

Place an ad today!

Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses, bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices, check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away from home.

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
The official STAR TREK web site has posted the official details of the forthcoming STAR TREK NEMESIS home video and DVD release, slated for May 20th. There has been speculation as to whether the release would include deleted scenes re-edited into a new cut of the film, but this will not be the case.

According to the site, the DVD release will be comprised just of one disc and include seven deleted scenes. Although these are not named, they are likely to include the conversation between Picard and Data after the wedding sequence, an additional mind rape of Couselor Troi by Shinzon, and an epilogue that included a visit by Geordi and Worf to Data's quarters.

Other extras will include a feature-length commentary by director Stuart Baird and four brand new featurettes including New Frontiers: Stuart Baird on Directing Nemesis, A Bold Vision of the Final Frontier, A Star Trek Family's Final Journey and Red Alert! Shooting the Action of Nemesis. The DVD will be be rounded out by a photo gallery.

The DVD will be available in both full and widescreen, include Dolby Digital English 5.1, English Dolby Surround and French Dolby Surround audio, and as with previous STAR TREK feature DVDs, will include both English and French subtitles.

No further information is available. You can read the original report here.

DVDs are meant to be upgraded

I don't buy this "wait for a director's cut" hooey.

Baird has always said the theatrical cut is his preferred cut. Watch the deleted scenes and be happy with it.

Besides, DVDs can be upgraded easily and value recovered. I sell DVDs along with my used books at the local bookstore, and get credit to buy more used DVDs or books.

There are any number of vendors (www.spun.com, www.djangomusic.com) that will sell you used DVDs, and even let you create "notify me" lists of titles you want as they get used copies in. Spun.com will even let you send them YOUR used CDs and DVDs for credit.

Once the DVD comes out, pick it up used. And if you don't like it, or a better version comes out, trade it in for credit and then pick up the BETTER version used with it.

I mean, shoot, if you're that upset about Paramount screwing you with multiple releases, screw them back and don't buy the stuff new.

Can't be money-suckers

Let's face it- Paramount couldn't be THAT much of a money sucker. If they truly were, you would see Paramount release the bare-bones version of the DVD in NINE different "Collector's" covers- one for each member of the crew plus Schizon and B-4.

Or are you suggesting that Paramount just hasn't thought of that yet?

2 Versions Isn't a Bad Idea...

I've said it before and I'll go to my grave saying it... the original cut of the film needs to be released, then a special re-cutting should be done if fans demand it. I say this of any film. Despite how fans felt about the film with cuts having been made, it is Baird's film. He's said that although he's regrettably cut material from the movie, the theatrical release was his "director's cut" of Nemesis.

I see no harm in having two versions of it on the market. Some people may want two versions. I kept my widescreen VHS of Star Trek TMP so that I'd have both versions. Look at the "unrated" versions of those teen "T&A" movies like "American Pie" and "Road Trip" that are all over the place. You don't see the world ending over that. What's the big deal? Don't want the original version of the film? Fine, don't buy it. Wait a few months and pick up the inevitable super bang-up deluxe version with free cloaking device or whatever. Lord of the Rings fans are actually overwhelmed by the fact there is the opportunity to have 2 cuts of the film out there.

That's my opinion. I welcome yours.

Telly

I just started to buy the ST DVDs because they're coming out with the 2-disc versions, but I guess I'll have to wait for that one. While I loved Nemesis, they're crazy if they think I'm gonna fall for buying the movie and then seeing a "Special Edition" come out later. I'll just have to rent it to watch the deleted scenes.

Hmmm...

...why would Paramount re-cut Nemesis when it would require additional funds for the re-cut, re-score, possibly new visual effects...when the movie isn't making money?

They're not doing it for Star Trek V, what makes anyone think they will do it for Nemesis?

Just a thought...what does everyone think?

... Dukat, but it is fans like you that are helping breed mediocrity in Trek today. Paramount knows fans will buy the DVD no matter what, so why spruce it up with the extras that more discriminating fans have called them to release? We've asked Paramount repeatedly to re-integrate those scenes into the movie or we won't buy it. You, however, will buy it - along with countless others. I urge everyone not to buy it!

Well, I liked Nemesis, and I will buy it, and be happy watching it a couple times, but it does tick me off. From Berman & Baird's comments, clearly there was not going to be an extended edition, but seven scenes and 4 featurettes is all the extras I get on the first release? Methinks that also with the packaging, the 2 disc edition will be coming out, probably at the end of 2004 at the earliest.

Paramaount, why do this to me? I have bought much, and you will make 17.95 on this DVD, and then probably 22.95 on the 2-discer later-- But you are killing some goodwill with me. I want the DS9 DVDs, you got that $700 already in the bank as far as I go, and I bought TNG seasons 3 to 7-- but the goodwill you are killing by stupid things like this, WILL effect my decision to go back for TNG seasons 1-2, and Enterprise DVDs. Voyager is probably a lost cause, you would have to package a naked Jeri Ryan with it to get me to buy that series.

While I do applaud Paramount for putting out a better-than average first release DVD, this is not what we want. I will only purchase a 2-disc set with an extended cut. I encourage others to do the same.

Where are the trailers?
By BWilliams ( BWillNCC1701E@webtv.net) at 12:06:12 on February 21 2003

One report I saw on DVDFile said that it would have trailers on there, yet DVD Review's site and the Star Trek site did not mention anything about trailers. Good grief! The teaser is all over the place - on the Star Trek III DVD, on the Star Trek: TNG Year 5 DVD, even on the mini disc, but not on the official DVD? And where's the full theatrical trailer, for that matter? Looks like I'll have to have the teaser burned onto DVD-R with all the other Nemesis material I have (TV spots, behind the scenes spots, and the ET special), as well as searching for an extremely high quality version of the full theatrical trailer.

Even with these additional goodies thus far, Paramount could have done a wee bit better to give us a complete package right at the start.

All one needs to do is rip the DVD and extra scenes and make a fan edit. I think I may have to try and do it myself

a solid offering, but not what the fans want (oh yes, its Paramount isn;t it).

Nemesis had all the right buttons there waiting to be pressed, but like Data on a Reman keypad Paramount seem to have pushed the wrong ones. :/
