Avery Brooks Shines On Stage as PAUL ROBESON and Nana Visitor Hopes for DS9 Flick

PROMENADE

Place an ad today!

Typhon Station is a very fastpaced PBeM RPG with skilled, experienced players and a warm sense of bonding and community. We play at the turn-of-the-century, 2400, and are located in the Typhon Expanses, bordering the Neutral Zone, proximate to the Romulan Empire, and near the Iconian Digs, and are on the first warning route of the original Borg Incursion.
We have three stations to post from, SB 185, USS Odyssey, and USS Wraith. They all have general and particular storylines and all interact. This game is not for the faint of heart! The writing is superb and comes hot and heavy. We have some open spots and also we will consider character suggestions. So, longtime RPGers and novices, check us out. See if you want to make Typhon Station your home away from home.

STAR TREK's first black lead actor Avery Brooks took the stage last weekend in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as the legendary showman Paul Robeson in the play, PAUL ROBESON. Written by Phillip Hayes Dean and directed by Harold Scott, the play follows the life of the black actor and civil rights activists, famous for his rendition of OL' MAN RIVER in the 1932 classic SHOW BOAT.

The Star-Telegram praises Brooks' performance, writing: "Shedding his Deep Space Nine captain's insignia, Brooks unleashed a towering bass-baritone voice that, yes, is worthy of Robeson..."

Brooks performed OL' MAN RIVER at the beginning of act two, and the audience of 1,000 theater-goers broke into thunderous applause before the song was over.

"Brooks is especially skillful in conveying the high hopes and the naive optimism of the young Robeson," the paper writes. "Like too many enchanting evenings, this was a one-night delight. It's a pity Paul Robeson couldn't stick around for a week or more; theater and music lovers who didn't make the trip last night missed an extraordinary experience."

DS9 co-star Nana Visitor speaks with IGN about the new release of the series on DVD this month, recalling her early experiences with the show and suggesting that DS9 could do a movie in the future.

"I think our characters would be so good on film. Really good. We're all actors who can hit. And I would definitely be open. I truthfully don't think it's going to happen. I don't think they'll go to us for the next movie."

DVD Sales May Signal the Market for Next Movie

Of course the sales of DS9 DVDs will be the strongest signal Paramount will have about the market for a DS9 movie.

The TNG full season sets, a guaranteed winner because it's such a well-known show, were actually extremely disappointing in sales.

Imagine what might happen in light of that and Nemesis' bad performance, if the DS9 sets outsell them completely... which I think they might.

Oh very clever Worf. Eat any good books lately?

What a dreadful shame. DS9 would be extraordinary on the big screen. Imagine that huge beautiful station coming into view on the big screen. Like the closing shot at the end of "What We Leave Behind", as we slowly pull away from the station. On the big screen we could slowly close in on the station. I maintain high hopes of seeing DS9 in theaters, maybe by some revalation by Rick B. will make him decide to mine this golden opportunity. But, odds are against it.

Ol' Man River, wow I would have loved to see that. I live in Enron-town, I could have gone, but I knew nothing about the play.
