Cinescape has announced the full list of nominees for this year's annual
Saturn Awards. The 2003 edition will be the 29th year of the awards, which began in 1972. The STAR TREK franchise has received ten nominations in total for this year's awards, with four for the latest television series right off the bat.
ENTERPRISE is nominated for Best Network Television Series among challengers ALIAS, ANGEL, BUFFY, SMALLVILLE and THE TWILIGHT ZONE. Actor Scott Bakula ('Jonathan Archer') is nominated alongside Anthony Michael Hall (THE DEAD ZONE), Ben Browder (FARSCAPE) and David Boreanez (ANGEL) as Best Actor in a Television Series. Cast mate Jolene Blalock ('T'Pol') is also recognized in the Best Supporting Actress category next to Alyson Hannigan (BUFFY) and Amy Acker (ANGEL), among others. Completing the trifecta for the UPN series is Connor Trinneer, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor against actors like Alexis Denisof (ANGEL) and James Marsters (BUFFY).
STAR TREK NEMESIS also received four nominations, including Best Science Fiction Film (aganist STAR WARS EPISODE II and MINORITY REPORT, among others); Best Supporting Actor - Tom Hardy , challenged by Toby Stephens from DIE ANOTHER DAY and Max Von Sydow for MINORITY REPORT, among others; Best Costume Design - Bob Ringwood, who is nominated alongside such artists as Ngila Dickson for LORD OF THE RINGS: TTT and Lindy Hemming for HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS; and finally, Best Make-up Effects - Michael Westmore, who is recognized with the likes of Peter Owen & Peter King for LOTR: TTT and Michele Burke-Winter, Camille Calvet, & KNB Effects Group, Inc. for MINORITY REPORT.
The Saturns also recognize excellence in science fiction DVDs, nominating STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN - Special Collector's Edition in the Best DVD Classic Film Release category, while STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION's season box sets are nominated for Best DVD TV Programming Release.
Former TREK alums weren't left out of this year's nods, with Michael Piller's hit USA Network series THE DEAD ZONE picking up a nomination for Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series, and former VOYAGER co-producer Bryan Fuller's television movie CARRIE being nominated for Best Single Television Presentation.
