The Hollywood Reporter reports that famed STAR TREK actor George Takei is currently in talks to assume the role of United States Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta in a new telefilm for cable premium channel Showtime called DC 9/11, which chronicles the Bush White House in the days following the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. Takei is best known to STAR TREK fans as 'Hikaru Sulu', the helmsman of the Starship Enterprise on the original television series and five feature films, before being promoted to captain of the Starship Excelsior in STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY. Secretary Mineta grounded all U.S. air traffic in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

The Hollywood trade paper also reports that DEEP SPACE NINE veteran Penny Johnson is under consideration to star as National Security Adviser Condeleezza Rice. Johnson played Captain Sisko's love interest 'Kassidy Yates' on DS9 and can currently be seen in the hit Fox drama 24 as the wife of the president of the United States.

Actor Timothy Bottoms will portray President George W. Bush in the movie, after cariacturing the 43rd president in his short-lived Comedy Central series THAT'S MY BUSH. Additional roles still unfilled include Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
