TV Land recently bestowed special tribute awards to some of television's most celebrated series at the network's inaugural awards show, The TV Land Awards: A Celebration of Classic TV. The honored shows include STAR TREK, which received the Pop Culture Award.

The TV Land Awards were taped at the Hollywood Palladium and will air on TV Land and Nick at Nite this Wednesday, March 12 from 9:00-11:30pm ET/PT. So make sure to tune in, set your VCR or program your TIVO.

The full-blown homage to classic television is hosted by John Ritter and features some unforgettable moments such as Academy Award-winner Mira Sorvino (see photo) presenting William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nicholas, and James Doohan with the "Pop Culture Award" for STAR TREK." This award is presented to a show which has crossed the line from television series to pop culture phenomenon. TV Land acknowledges STAR TREK as this year's victor.

If it's ST in general that receives an award, then very good! It just sounds like they only have TOS actors on the show? Why?

I remember a Conan O'Brien show with Mira Sorvino where she talked about how much she loved Star Trek (TOS). She seemed to be quite the geek about it (meant in a good way), with a good knowledge of the show and some obvious passion for it. The interview pretty much melted into her talking about Star Trek and Conan just completely and continously breaking her up with laughter.

Jesus, everyone has an awards show. These things are on every freakin' week. But I must tell you though, you should feel honored when Jack Ripper hosts it.

Of course, Bill and Leonard are going to be there. One is not going to accept and award and smile for the camera while the other sits home and gets nothing. And Nichelle, is that all she had going for her that night? Where's George Takei and Walter Koenig? They must have had too much self-respect to attend.
