New ENTERPRISE composer Brian Tyler, who just joined the group of STAR TREK television composers with the episode "Canamar," revealed he will return to score the upcoming Borg episode "Regeneration," airing May 7, in a chat at Sci-Fi.com.

The episode is written by Mike Sussman and Phyllis Strong and directed by David Livingston. Tyler also scored the epic mini-series the CHILDREN OF DUNE, which is aring now on the Sci-Fi Channel, and professes to being a big TREK fan. In the online chat Tyler said that he uses his TiVo all the time, saying, "the first thing I recorded was DUNE, then STAR TREK."

One fan asked about the notorious reputation that modern TREK has for preferring toned-down musical accompaniment:

Q: Brian, there's been a lot of internet scuttlebut thrown around about Star Trek not being particularly composer-friendly. Can you respond to that? Is composing for an ongoing series with its own set rules very different than doing a score for a TV movie like Children of Dune? I loved your first Enterprise score, btw!"

A: Thank you kindly! Yes - I have heard that, but it was a joy doing Trek. I just wanted to tour the Enterprise, which I did. I approached the show exactly like a movie. Just shorter.

I happened to only see about 30 min of "Canamar" and my initial reaction was "...this is going to be one of those episodes again."
With how much I saw, I was impressed! This episode proves that ENT is getting better. It still has a long trek to get through the third season ( where most trek shows hit their hight point).
The score was the most notable, and the approach of a movie is the best risk this show has ever done. I enjoy Star Trek because it has movie quality fot television. I want a movie in my room, not TV crap!
Bring this composer back! At all costs! He will bring a new life to this show. Oh yeah, bring his score to and album too.

Way to go ENT, keep it up!

"...I wait for the dawn."

Brian Tyler's score for CoD is probably the best original music I've heard since Hanz Zimmer's Gladiator.

Truly wonderful, evocative stuff. Absolutely beautiful example of music.
