The sophomore season of ENTERPRISE will come to a close on May 21st as part of a doubleheader night following the first-run presentation of episode number twenty-five, "Bounty." TrekWeb has today received the first information about the season finale, continuing the Klingon story from "Bounty," which begins in April 9's "Judgment," called "The Expanse."

In the episode, the Klingon Chancellor offers the disgraced 'Duras', who lost his command in "Judgment" (airing April 9th), his command again if he can capture Jonathan Archer, who escaped Rura Penthe in that earlier episode and then the bounty hunters sent after him in "Bounty."

The NX-01, however, is en route back to Earth after news that the planet has been attacked. Before they can get home, however, Duras attacks and nearly boards the Enterprise before three slower Starfleet vessels show up and fend off the Klingons just in time. The Klingons withdrawal and upon reaching Earth, a scar of damage is visible from the Floridian peninsula to Cuba...

"The Expanse" will go before cameras next week and marks the twenty-sixth and final episode of the season. Production won't begin on season three until mid-to-late July.

This information has not been officially confirmed and is based on early, incomplete drafts of the episode's story, which can change significantly by the time the episode airs. The story is, however, © 2003 Paramount Pictures. All rights reserved.

I hope the show will remain optimistic

I'm not feeling like watching a show about war right now.

I hope Enterprise will remain optimistic and that it will show us that humanity has grown since now. That they are much more enlightened than we are today.
That they preserve their most important ideals, even when they are attacked and wounded.

I hope, that they will make some sceptical stories, even when they put in a war.
Like TNG's "The Drumhead", "The Pegasus", "The Wounded" or DS9's "Homefront/Paradise Lost".

Earth Dealt Devastating Blow...

I'm not as much excited by the plot and the Klingon's attack of Earth as I am that the new area of space that the ENTERPRISE will be patrolling--mentioned by Berman a few weeks ago--might be near or around the EARTH. This HOPEFULLY will mean NO MORE EXPLORER-OR-ALIEN-OF-THE-WEEK-STORIES and, finally, A NEW DIRECTION FOR TREK!!! We know less about EARTH and the surrounding planets than anything in STAR TREK LORE. I am praying that this is true! If so, this is the best news from TREK I have heard in years!!!

Sounds great, disastrous first-contact with the Klingons indeed. It will be really interesting to see these 'slower' Starfleet vessels - and I can't wait to hear the crews reaction to seeing Earth ablaze; perhaps the catalyst for Starfleet getting its act together? (Pearl Harbour style)

Great stuff

The Expanding Universe

Totally new here (and from outside of U.S. at that, from Poland to be exact, and yes - we also get to see Star Trek here :))) so pls bear with me...

Anyhoo, would be really great to see some epic-like qualities on Enterprise, meaning big space battles, fate of entire planets in balance, civilizations collapsing and forming, plot twists one cannot see even a second before it actually happens... Maybe "The Expanse" is a positive sign of things to come. I mean, hey, those guys have big budgets to actually make Enterprise universe look and feel big and fresh in scope. Look at Farscape - less money, but somehow they manage to do it.

One more thing: the title, "The Expanse", might hold some clues as to what's the episode really about. Let's talk about it then...

Who could've attacked Earth? Can't be the Klingons, but the Romulans perhaps?

I can't wait. THIS season is turning out great!

Just by reading the summary, this episode sounds great. Having Earth itself attacked is a great idea. It definatly sounds like B&B are holding their promise of presenting a better Enterprise.

I have a question though: is this (The Expanse) the first part of a 2 parter (The Expanse Part 2), or will Bounty and The Expanse be the 2-parter?

Ok, Questions

1. So this and Bounty are a two-parter?

2. Any sign of Silik, Shran, Soval, or FutureGuy? This is a season finale after all.

3. Does this mean that Duras could be replacing Silik as Archer's nemesis as a result of John Fleck's Carnivale schedule?

Interesting change

When I first read this story, the headline was "Klingons Deal Devastating Blow to Earth in Finale". I was about to poast asking whether we knew that the Klingons were responsible, and then I noticed that Steve had changed the headline to the passive "Earth Dealt Devastating Blow", etc.

Fascinating -- especially considering the speculation we've all indulged in about the upcoming Romulan War, and the sill-outstanding issue of that "disastrous" first contact with the Klingons...

This is an interesting development and appears to start an entirely new story arc. Is there going to be a Earth/Kronos war? Where does this leave the Romulan, TCW, and Vulcan/Andorian story arcs? I'm glad to see Enterprise jazz things up a bit.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but this episode sounds absolutely awesome and exactly what we've been asking for. A major story arc that spans three episodes within two months and bringing Earth into it? Hallelujuah! The last few weeks of the season sounds really spectacular, FINALLY.

"The NX-01, however, is en route back to Earth after news that the planet has been attacked."

I'm curious to hear how they'll explain this, as it should take NX-01 about two years to reach Earth by this point, no?

Sounds exciting, though. I've got my fingers crossed.
