The official STAR TREK web site has posted its production report for the second-to-last episode of the season, "Bounty." According to the new information, Captain Archer will be hunted down by Tellarite bounty hunters commissioned by the Klingon High Command to bring him to justice.

This will be the first time since the original series episode "Journey to Babel" that we've seen the Tellarites and according to the report, "expect to see the same basic snout-nosed look, but with a great deal of refinement." The main Tellarite character, 'Skalaar', will be played by actor Jordan Lund, who has appeared in both ST:DS9's "The Storyteller" and ST:TNG's "Redemption II." 'Gowron' actor Robert O'Reilly will make a cameo appearance as another bounty hunter, 'Kago-Darr', in the episode. Another Tellarite, Skalaar's brother, will be played by Ed O'Ross while Michael Garvey plays the Klingon 'Captain Gortoth'.

New plot information also includes a subplot concerning T'Pol losing control of her emotions. Roxann Dawson directed the episode from a script by Mike Sussman and Phyllis Strong with Hans Tobeason. According to the report, "Bounty" is still slated to air May 21st in a double bill with the season finale, despite info from UPN earlier today that the episode had been moved to May 14th after "First Flight."

Primal Vulcan urges

Trektoday's summary has an additional tidbit about this episode's B-plot: an alien pathogen infects T'Pol and exposes her 'primal Vulcan urges.' I smell 'Blood Fever 2' coming. But even if it's harmless, I can guarantee UPN will only advertise T'Pol getting very horny and probably very out of context - that's gotta be worth more eyeballs than some story about Tellarite bounty hunters, right?

So I guy in a pig mask gets a handful of lines and becomes a part of Pop culture.
I am happy to see the Pigmen return to the Trek universe.

All info I have on Tellarites

Hey guys, someone in the previous thread said that there wasn't much known about the Tellarites. Well, I have a book called Star Trek: The Worlds of the Federation. Here is all they have on Tellarites as well as their homeworld...

Tellar is the fifth world of an eight-planet binary star system. The planet and its two moons, Kera and Phinda, revolve around the larger of the two suns, an orange dwarf. One of the founding worlds of the Federation, Tellar is the home of an intelligent, humanoid species of porcine derivation. Terra's contact with Tellar was the first that the Tellarites had known. The sudden alien encounter threw the planet into a panic. The people of Tellar, fearing an invasion(a fear fueled by rampant rumors of Terran evil), nearly destroyed their planetary economy by storming their financial institutions and demanding all funds stored there. Planetary chaos was averted when a worldwide broadcast showed the native people a benevolent meeting Harland Anders, captain of the USS Erickson, and the Tellarite monarch Gartov. This incident of panic was an early inspiration for the Prime Directive.

Tellarites are generally quite boisterous and argumentative, often without reason, a quality often taken for belligerency among other races. Most Tellarites enjoy argument, and debate is a primary form of entertainment among the people of the planet. Tellarite speech, regardless of language, is always every rough and guttural, while English and most of the softer tongues are difficult for Tellarties.

While largely humanoid, Tellarites do sport several notable variations upon the human norm. Their lower limbs are hooved, ending in a hardened, split dermal pad with dewclaws in the rear. Their feature is almost unkown among biped species, making the Tellarites most uncommon in that aspect. They also have a heightened sense of blanace, despite their rather rotund body shape. While their senses of hearing and smell are extremely keen, Tellarite eyesight is quite poor. Sharp-eyed at birth, young Tellarites become increasingly nearsighted as they reach adulthood at the age of twelve Terran years. Young are born live, almost always in groups of six. Life expectancy is lower than that of most advanced species. Tellarite males average a life span of eighty-seven Terran years, while females generally live to the age of ninety-three.

Tellar itself is a rather unremarkable world. Fifty-three percent of its surface is covered with water. Since the planet's axis stands at only one-point-seven degrees from orbital perpendicular, there is no seasonal change during the Tellarite year. Average temperature at the surface is eighty-three degrees Fahrenheit, by day and sxity-two degrees at night. Tellarites have an advanced aptitude for engineering, and they contribute much to Federation science in the fields of propulsion and structural design.

Very good news

I think the news for Enterprise just keeps getting better. I've always believed that less is more with Enterprise. By focusing on a smaller area of space (smaller than the TOS area of space), Enterprise can tell a lot of fascinating stories of races referenced in TOS but not fully developed. I really like going back to the Tellarites. We haven't heard anything substantial from them in so long. And we know virtually nothing about them as a species (other than they are good engineers). I love the pig people.

Please, please B&B keep up the good work that you've wroughy as of late. Obviously fan reaction, at least on this BBS, is a lot more positive since Enterprise started moving in its current direction.

Is it me?

Is it me or does the name 'Kago-Dar' seem like it's in homage to the now defunct Farscape character 'Kar Dago?'

If so it's nice to know that the ENT crew is watching some great sci-fi and trying to pay it alittle respect. I hope they get some inspiration from it.

It seems that they are putting all the cards on the table for the ending episodes. WOW! I haven't been this excited about an Enterprise episode (Regeneration, First Flight, Bounty, The Expanse) since the "Broken Bow" premiere. Now I am anticipating "Bounty" even more. I am anxious to see what Westmore has come up with for the Tellarite look.

We've seen Tellarites often...

There was one in horrible make up in TOS 's "Whom Gods Destroy", the Federation Council Chambers in Trek IV, and DS9's "Shadowplay". I sure hope they do as well as the Andorians have...that make up was so bad in "Whom..." that I would be happy not to see any again. You can't go wrong with pigmen, though, I guess.
Is anyone bothered by all this bounty hunter talk? I'm also a big Star Wars fan, and I liked Boba and Jango, but all this Trek bounty talk seems like an attempt to cash in on the cult status of the Wars bounty hunters. I think they can exist in the Trek universe...but I hope they don't become overblown as they have with Wars...
