ENTERPRISE began the first of seven straight weeks of new episodes last night on UPN with the presentation of "The Crossing." The four February Sweeps episodes held firm in the ratings game, with the last two episodes -- "Future Tense" and "Canamar" -- receiving 4.5/7 overnight figures and going on to achieve 2.9 and 2.8 final ratings respectively. "Canamar" was the least-watched episode of the Sweeps period, seen by 4.1 million people, while "Cease Fire" took the crown on February 12th with 4.78 million viewers, the most for ENTERPRISE since "Singularity" nabbed 4.83m in November.

Mediaweek's Programming Insider with Marc Berman reports today that "The Crossing" failed to build on February's gains, as the UPN series returned from four weeks of repeats. Berman calls the TREK series "disappointing" for its overnight showing of 3.9/6, which represents a steep decline since "Canamar"'s 4.5 overnight on February 26th. This makes "The Crossing" the lowest overnight performer of 2003 and above only "Vanishing Point," which managed just a 3.4 overnight rating prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, on the season as a whole. The previous lowest overnight figure for the series in 2003 was 4.2, earned by "Dawn" in January and "Stigma" in February.

ENTERPRISE faced stiff competition last night from the first half hour of Fox's AMERICAN IDOL, which dominated with a 13.6/20 from 8:30-9:30. ENTERPRISE beat the WB's DAWSON'S CREEK by a mile (2.9/4). UPN matched the WB's average of 3.1 for the night but just missed the fifth place spot with a 4% share compared to WB's 5%.

You know I am a supporter of Enterprise, but I just dont know what happened on The Crossing. The acting was awesome, the camera work was right on....the script was okay....it just sorta fell flat. I wasnt scared, I wasnt excited, i just knew how it was gonna turn out. I guess it was a little "by the numbers." But they have cranked out some good TV this season, so a so-so episode like The Crossing is forgiveable.

UPN sucks

How many people even get UPN here, I don't. I still get Enterprise at 8pm every Wednesday though, UPN only covers like 50% of North America and it plays a pile of crap. I think that hurts more than anything.

WAR of Ratings???

"The Crossing" was a decent episode
with an Extreme Alien ship-very cool. In addition to pre-emption for basketball, the month of re-runs, etc., perhaps the
WAR in Iraq hurt ENTERPRISE's ratings. I imagine the war is diminishing other tv shows' ratings.

Thoughts ...

I started watching this series with great optimism. I began to get turned off by several slow-moving episodes, but it was "A NIGHT IN SICKBAY" that finished me off. I will probably not make the effort to watch the show again ... UNTIL the series finale. I will definitely watch that one, as well as the premiere next year. That is when I will decide whether Trek gets another chance. I think there are many people like me - People that have been turned off by the show but more than willing to give it another chance. I think the finale and premiere of season 3 will be a critical time for ENT. You better make season 3 worth watching, Berman, or we could see ENT die a quick death.

This show really has had a strong season so far. Other then Dead Stop, Vanashing Point, and The COmmunicator I can't think of many bad episodes. The Seventh, Stigma, Minefield, Cease Fire, and Future Tense were all excellent and last night's was very good. It's a shame so few are watching cause the show is really getting pretty good.

It was a half decent episode!! I have to admit, I never expected a ship to be involved or that the crew would have to do what they did to get back their crewmembers.

Coming back from reruns always hurts ENT, especially when UPN DOESN'T ADVERTISE PROPERLY *sigh* and the fact that Retardity Television, oops, Reality Television has hit an all time high (or low as I like to say) to the point where people don't even know what's real or fake on television now a days, then is a lot to say for ENT in a market of this "obsessive" television.

The "bunch" have worked on fine season 2 closers and a strong season 3, so good luck to them anyways.

It's not rocket science

I'll admit that I somewhat enjoyed this episode, but it was not original, and wasn't earth shattering in any way. Here's the moral of the story... if we just have a situation of the week, then ratings will be low. If we have episodes that have meaning, ie. Romulans, TCW, episodes will have higher ratings. It's simple as that. I don't know why Berman is so shocked. I mean, how many times can we see aliens invade a persons body already.

......Ouch. a 3.9/6? Considering the fact that ENT has been rerunning for a month, that crappy "American Idol" that's admired by American viewers with no taste everywhere aired against it and the fact that half my on-line friends who were waiting for the ep last night told me that it had been pre-empted by professional basketball, I'm not at all surprised. They were so ticked. Not one of the month of rerun episoded were pre-empted in any of their markets but when a new one airs, it's pre-empted.

UPN, Berman&Braga are not good for ENT. Not good at all. I just hope they don't panic and will stay the course with the new, darker direction and story arcs. Of course, some cluess numbnut in a suit might decide that what ENT needs is more of T'Pol's boobs, low rise jammies, and her flirting with Archer. I laughed when Wisp!Reed called her the most beautiful woman on the ship. Jolene is very pretty, but T'Pol is not the most beautiful woman on the ship if you consider anything besides her large mammaries. Could they at least get rid of that horrible wig? Jolene's own hair is so pretty. Of course, having T'Pol being every crew member's wet dream is getting old. When I read the spoilers for "Bounty's" B story I thought I was going to barf, and the insider confirmed that it is exactly what the fans were afraid of.

The girl Wisp! Reed was harassing in the elevator was cuter than T'Pol, and Hoshi certainly is. I liked evil, violent Wisp!Hoshi...that girl rocks. Forget T'Pol and let Trip and Hoshi rock the house. Sounds like a plan.
