Last week's first-run presentation of ENTERPRISE's "Horizon" showed no signs of improvement in the ratings wars, delivering the lowest overnight rating of 2003 (3.5/5,
story) , and drawing the smallest audience yet for any new episode. According to the
Los Angeles Times, overall viewership was down last week due to the approaching Easter holiday and several sports preemptions in major markets certainly didn't make things easier for the UPN series.
In the final numbers, available from the L.A. Times and USA Today, "Horizon" was watched by 3.36 million viewers--now the smallest audience in ENTERPRISE's two-season history. "Judgment" held the crown for a week after its 3.69 million viewers inched below "Vanishing Point"'s 3.78m last November (story). Overall, even top performers like Fox's AMERICAN IDOL saw a dip in viewership last week, dropping from over 20 million the previous week to just under that figure last Tuesday.
"Vanishing Point" and "Dawn," however, were joined by "Judgment" as the series' lowest Nielsen performers, with 2.5/5 ratings. Until last week. "Horizon" delivered a final household rating of 2.2/4, the lowest of any first-run ENTERPRISE episode. This means that roughly 2.2% of the country's 106 million television households were watching the show last Wednesday while nearly 4% of the households watching television at the time were watching ENTERPRISE.
The WB's DAWSON'S CREEK trumped ENTERPRISE in the ratings for the first time in recent weeks, earning a 2.4/4, but attracting less viewers, an estimated 3.12 million.
