For the second week UPN's ENTERPRISE has improved in the fast national overnight ratings, which track that nation's top television markets. After several weeks of declines that bottomed with "Horizon"'s 3.5/5 (
story), both "The Breach" (3.8/6,
story) and now "Cogenitor" have reclaimed lost ground.
Earning a 4.0/6 in the overnights, "Cogenitor" marks the highest number since February's "Canamar" (4.5/7, story). The figure is still well below historical showings for ENTERPRISE, which ended 2002 and started 2003 with a 4.2/7 overnight rating for both "The Catwalk" (story) and "Dawn" (story). "Cogenitor," however, is well above the series-low 3.4 set by "Vanishing Point" in November.
The news will may be bittersweet, however. Last week "The Breach" soared three tenths of a percentage point compared to "Horizon" in the overnights but ended up with only a one-tenth increase in its final rating, and actually less viewers than its predecessor (story), making it the least-watched episode ever despite the overnight improvement.
UPN took the fifth place spot overall last night with an average of 3.6/5 compared to the WB's 3.5/5. THE TWILIGHT ZONE retained 80% of ENTERPRISE's audience last night to arrive at 3.3/5, a number MediaWeek's Marc Berman says is promising. Fox took the #1 spot in the eight o'clock hour with AMERICAN IDOL, followed by ABC, NBC and CBS.
