In a pleasant turn of fortune for UPN's ENTERPRISE, the series is now setting positive overnight ratings records just a few short weeks after making successive benchmarks in the opposite direction. The first-run presentation of "Regeneration" last night continued a trend of improvement begun with "The Breach," even if not reaching the highs a Borg event episode might have in the past.
Garnering a 4.2/6 in the metered market numbers (which include only the country's top 50 markets), according to MediaWeek, "Regeneration" is the highest overnight number since February's "Canamar," which earned a 4.5/7 (story). Previously, last week's "Cogenitor" was the highest-rated new episode since "Canamar" with a 4.0/6 (story).
Unquestionably a welcome change from the 2003 low "Horizon" set three weeks ago (3.5/5, story), "Regeneration" is more nominal than exceptional. "Cease Fire" and "Canamar" still hold the year high for overnight performance with 4.5/7's and compared to last year's opening week of May Sweeps, the series is down nearly 15%. "Vox Sola" scored a 4.9/8 on May 1, 2002 (story), while "Fallen Hero" followed up on May 8, 2002 with an identical showing (story).
The first Borg appearance on the prequel series bested rival DAWSON'S CREEK on the WB, which managed a 3.9/6, but UPN still took the bottom spot with a nightly average of 3.4/5 behind WB's 3.8/6. The complete overnight wrap-up is available here at MediaWeek. Final ratings and audience data will be available later this week or next.
