PROMENADE

In a pleasant turn of fortune for UPN's ENTERPRISE, the series is now setting positive overnight ratings records just a few short weeks after making successive benchmarks in the opposite direction. The first-run presentation of "Regeneration" last night continued a trend of improvement begun with "The Breach," even if not reaching the highs a Borg event episode might have in the past.

Garnering a 4.2/6 in the metered market numbers (which include only the country's top 50 markets), according to MediaWeek, "Regeneration" is the highest overnight number since February's "Canamar," which earned a 4.5/7 (story). Previously, last week's "Cogenitor" was the highest-rated new episode since "Canamar" with a 4.0/6 (story).

Unquestionably a welcome change from the 2003 low "Horizon" set three weeks ago (3.5/5, story), "Regeneration" is more nominal than exceptional. "Cease Fire" and "Canamar" still hold the year high for overnight performance with 4.5/7's and compared to last year's opening week of May Sweeps, the series is down nearly 15%. "Vox Sola" scored a 4.9/8 on May 1, 2002 (story), while "Fallen Hero" followed up on May 8, 2002 with an identical showing (story).

The first Borg appearance on the prequel series bested rival DAWSON'S CREEK on the WB, which managed a 3.9/6, but UPN still took the bottom spot with a nightly average of 3.4/5 behind WB's 3.8/6. The complete overnight wrap-up is available here at MediaWeek. Final ratings and audience data will be available later this week or next.

I am quite surprised at how many people fell for the sweeps bate.

Use an old villian that people Love and resuse it once again.
They needed bigger ratings and got the fanboys to tune in.

The Borg use to be one of the best villians but the current writers cant seem to make up a new villian so they fall back on the reliable Borg.
They did it with Voyager because they couldnt come up with new ideas and here we go again.

This wont be the last of them either. I'll bet you on this.

According to a couple other sites, the final rating was 2.7, identical to "Congenitor"'s final rating. Can anyone (Cyrus? Steve?) confirm this? So the Borg episode didn't gain many (or any) new viewers over the last episode? That's hard to believe. I know at least one view who doesn't normally watch who tuned in... me. :-)

Guess I don't count. :-)

I gotta say that this episode did make me feel like something was at stake. Sure, I knew that no one important would die, even Phlox, and I knew that the BORG would not take over the world, but it was still exciting! Finally! I especially liked that they finally used the transporter. That was cool. I'm not sure why the drones that boarded Enterprise were transported off before the transport blew, or why the pistols used by the crew on the Enterprise didn't work as well as Archer's did, but I guess we can't have everything.
As far as the BORG never being mentioned in the "future," you could say this was just one encounter with one unknown species. Happens all the time. Thankfully, no one called them "BORG". Even if you say this event was bigger than any other, do we talk about World War I or Napoleon in our day to day lives? I doubt we could have learned everything about the past from all the previous episodes or movies. Each of those were focused on a specific incident that made up that episode, so there was no reason for someone to give a history lesson. Anyway, let's see what happens next.

Tempered Start for Sweeps

May sweeps actually started last week with "Cogenitor".

BTW, overnight ratings are different than fast national ratings. UPN & WB don't have fast national ratings.

I thought Regeneration was fantastic! The episode at last had IT!Action, adventure, and the Borg!.
A lot of people hate the borg for the simple reason they have been over used,I agree they have been used to death just to get rating and Ive no doubt thats why they are back now but at lease this time it was a story with Borg Meaning!Thats how it all began and ended in a way.
Lets see more episodes that use the Star Trek Basis for what it is,there is still the stories there and Now When it has been close to the chop they have finally figured out that they need to have strong episodes everyweek and take chances.
I was one of the people that just Sl**ged down the show but I think now Im man enough to stand up and say right its time to give this another chance and see what it turns into.
Writers of the show take note, learn from this and write great stories that are not holding back, make then big and dont save them for sweeps and season ends.
Judgement was another great episode, please continue the great work its took so long to find!!!!

In ratings for such a hyped borg event, it should have been the higest rated show of the season atleast. I think this is further prove that enterprise is lossing the ratings battle. With this performance I can take a educated guess that we ain't gonna see a series VI

I liked the ep. Archer finally had to make some hard choices. A couple of points though.
When they blasted the Tarkanians(sp) out of the airlock, they should have vaporized them. If they could survive the frozen tundra they could survive space. Don't think anyone would want them on their windshield.

Also when they blew the transport, they should have vaporized it as well.

One more thing, with all the technology Earth has in the future, couldn't they have detected the debris in the Arctic Circle long ago?

Overall good ep. Fast moving.

Good news for Angel fans

Since WB took the night versus UPN, and UPN won the 8-9 slot, that would mean that Angel scored some good overnight numbers for its season (hopefully JUST season) finale. As an Angel fan I'm pretty happy about that. Let's hope it helps convince WB not to cancel Angel (and keep it in one time slot for more than half a season).
