ENTERPRISE's resident space boomer will take the stage in Los Angeles next month, headlining a new production of the race relations play DUTCHMAN by Leroi Jones. Anthony Montgomery ('Travis Mayweather') will appear in a special four week engagement at the Elephant Theater, in Hollywood, beginning June 5th.

DUTCHMAN follows Montgomery's character 'Clay', an African-American poet "on his way to a friend's party when he notices an attractive white woman standing on the subway platform," according to a release from the actor's publicist. 'Lula' (Deborah Dir) boards the train and introduces herself to Clay, and the two proceed to "seduce and repel each other until Lula drives Clay to his feet and to his destiny."

DUTCHMAN won the 1964 Village Voice OBIE Award, which were established by the publication in 1955 to honor off-Broadway productions. DUTCHMAN will be directed by Sedric and run Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm through June 28th, although there will be no performance on Thursday, June 26th (the first day of ENTERPRISE production).

The Elephant Theater is located at 6322 Santa Monica Boulevard. Tickets are $10. For reservations, please call 323-962-5613.

Stage work does wonders for the craft

Good for Anthony. My actor friends tell me that there's nothing better to work upyour acting chops better than stage acting. Television and film is nothing like several live performances a week.

I always felt that Anthony was the novice of the cast, but felt that he was growing into the role. With a project like Dutchman, he's got his work cut out for him and I believe it's going to do wonders for him. I'm also happy to see him take on such a meaty role.

Dutchman's author, the former Le Roi Jones, now better known as poet and social commentator Amiri Baraka, is known for his provacative subject matter and hard hitting social critisism. Dutchman was also made into a film starring Al Freeman.
