Column Preview: Assimilation May Be Closer Than You Think

Though there might not be a mysterious sphere up in the arctic, waiting with its insidious nanoprobes to roboticize your great grandchildren, and though the chances are slim that there are Swedish cyborg zombies from the delta fringes of the Milky Way waiting to enslave the human race, at least one of the things in this week’s episode of Enterprise, “Regeneration,” might not be too far fetched. The United States House of Representatives approved an increase in spending on the Nanotechnology Research and Development Act on May 7, 2003. Strangely enough, this development came on the same day that “Regeneration” premiered on television sets across the country. Coincidence? We think not...
