NEMESIS DVD #1 in Debut Week, Tenth TREK Moves 1.3 Million Copies

Dept: Star Trek: Nemesis
The Hollywood Reporter reports today that the debut of STAR TREK NEMESIS on DVD last week brought Paramount Home Entertainment the #1 spot in overall DVD sales for the period. Selling 1.3 million copies, the Nielsen VideoScan's First Alert DVD sales chart reports that NEMESIS bested ANTWONE FISHER for the top position. That film, directed by Hollywood heavyweight Denzel Washington, surprised industry insiders by selling over one million units in its debut.

The tenth TREK film made $10.6 million in video rental sales in its first five days, according to Video Store magazine data published by the trade. The number one rental spot was taken by ANALYZE THAT, a comedy sequel starring Billy Crystal and Robert de Niro, which made $13.6 in the period. NEMESIS was "clearly expected to perform well on DVD because of its genre, brand recognition and cult following" according to HR.

The pic disappointed at the box office with just $43 million domestically, the lowest of any TREK feature. You can read more about the week's DVD chart-toppers here.

The same will occur with ENT

Mark my words, if you think this is a justification that the box office was unfair to NEMESIS, I'll wager that despite the poor ratings, when ENT comes out on DVD, you'll see a similar surge that defies its TV ratings. You'll be hard pressed to find a free copy of ENT for at least the first two weeks.

Its nearly half of Nemesis opening weekend. I guess people have decided to give Nemesis a chance and bid TNG goodbye with some more respect. DVD sales is good news too. Mine Walmart was sold out too when the movie first came out with me grabbing the last copy

I'm glad to hear about Nemesis good DVD sale. Does anyone remember how the Insurrection DVD performed during it's first week? Of course these numbers shouldn't be directly compared as more people today have DVD.

I'm really thrilled to hear some good news for Nemesis. I can add to the good sales reports, 'cause I was at Target this morning and was happy to see they were sold out. Plus, our local WalMart was sold out when I stopped by on Monday to do an errand. And they had a pretty big display on opening day, when I picked up my copy (on sale for $14.88 -- sorry Steve).

Sold Out!

There was nary a copy to be found when I was looking this past weekend. I went to three different stores and all were sold out - including Best Buy, which had a massive Nemesis display that was completely empty.

Trek is not dead - it just needs the right TLC.

I certainly think Nemesis deserved to do a lot better than it has, I'm glad to see the DVD is helping the cause some... BTW does anyone know how the DS9 sets have been doing?
