The
Hollywood Reporter reports today that the debut of STAR TREK NEMESIS on DVD last week brought Paramount Home Entertainment the #1 spot in overall DVD sales for the period. Selling 1.3 million copies, the Nielsen VideoScan's First Alert DVD sales chart reports that NEMESIS bested ANTWONE FISHER for the top position. That film, directed by Hollywood heavyweight Denzel Washington, surprised industry insiders by selling over one million units in its debut.
The tenth TREK film made $10.6 million in video rental sales in its first five days, according to Video Store magazine data published by the trade. The number one rental spot was taken by ANALYZE THAT, a comedy sequel starring Billy Crystal and Robert de Niro, which made $13.6 in the period. NEMESIS was "clearly expected to perform well on DVD because of its genre, brand recognition and cult following" according to HR.
The pic disappointed at the box office with just $43 million domestically, the lowest of any TREK feature. You can read more about the week's DVD chart-toppers here.
