GameSpy has posted a new preview of Activision's forthcoming first-person shooter ELITE FORCE II, which has been moved to a June 24th release. The article summarizes several of the game's early missions and says the final product shouldn't disappoint.

"Although Elite Force 2 is using a rapdily aging Quake 3 engine, the team at Ritual has done an excellent job with the game's graphics," writes Sal "Suggo" Accardo. "In particular, the character models (especially Munro) and world textures in look excellent, and more than competitive with the latest Unreal-engine titles. Better yet, we were able to run the game at 1600x1200 with barely a stutter (which is more than I can say for most games I've run this year on the same machine)."

Accardo says one of the first missions, however, wasn't particularly challenging in this preview.

"Combat in this mission wasn't particularly advanced; the short yellow alien creatures you fight run pretty much straight at you, and aren't much of a challenge for your compression rifle," he writes. "The biggest danger comes when they attack from behind, forcing you to stay on your toes. Most of the time, you're simply trying the team from one section of the ship to another intact, and try to rescue whatever crew still remain on the Dallas."
