StarTrek.com is reporting that the sequel to the 1997 documentary TREKKIES, has been officially green-lighted as a Paramount 'presentation'. TREKKIES 2 will see Denise Crosby who played 'Lt. Tasha Yar' in THE NEXT GENERATION reprise her role as both presenter and Executive Producer.

The sequel turns to the Trek phenomenon abroad, particularly Europe and Australia where it is filming this week. The production team also catch up with those who appeared in the original documentary to see what they're up to now. Also featured is the recently publicised 'Star Trek Apartment' which is for sale in the United Kingdom.

You can visit the Official TREKKIES 2 website here.

Trekkies 2: Jumping Ship

Is this sequel going to be about how much some fans hate Brannon Braga and Rick Berman? Will it cover the fact that fans are leaving the franchise at breakneck warp speed? Will it talk about how Star Trek Nemesis was a total bomb at the box office? Will it talk about the ever-dwindling ratings of Enterprise? :)

that character in the Simpsons will eternally represent the trekkie to most people. Never admit your a trekkie if your going to a job interview.

Sense!

I'm glad to know, they try to bring a feeling of SENSE into peoples minds regarding Star Trek. There's too much "geek" about being a trekkie! Sure, there are people for whom Star Trek is their religion.

But I hope (and expect) the documentary will focus on the clever vision that Gene Roddenberry wanted to express through his series. That THIS is is fact, something everyone can agree with; something positive that is worth seeing on television; and a future that makes sense! Despite the buzz of "utopia" that has always sounded against Star Trek. Which is someting I absolutely can't agree with, as to me "utopia" means something A WHOLE LOT more peaceful than Star Trek has ever tried to present.

But a documentary with geeks is never going to look appealing to the general audience, and Star Trek needs to be HIP. It needs to communicate with the better parts of our society. Not the lowest ranks, and not those who have nothing else to do, with their time.

On the other hand, I certainly don't wish Star Trek to be swallowed by political movements, or make political statements. It just needs to talk to the GOOD in all of us.

Which I think it does, to a fair degree. It obviously doesn't educate all of it's audience to stop being crude. I have never seen a more negative sounding audience than Trekkers, and we ought to be ashamed of that. But apparently, nothing better can be expected, when there is no censuring of websites.

Sure the first one has some embarassing moments, but it was a lot of fun. I'd go to that dentist any day. I hope they do more cast interviews too, like with DS9 members and VOY members. I loved seeing Brent Spiner react to his fans, and seeing what the fans created. I'd like to see them make it longer, and I hope a DVD will have tons of extras. Can't wait to see fanatic Japanese Trek fans!! They should talk to the guy who made that Enterprise model.
