Executive producer
Rick Berman speaks in the newest issue of the UK's STAR TREK Monthly (#107), and he says ENTERPRISE's chances against rival WB's SMALLVILLE may be better than some think.
"You know, I don't know. I look at the alternatives of having switched to Tuesday night or having gone up against the new JAG show, and I just don't know," he says in excerpts available at Sci-Fi Pulse. "There are those people who think we're going to share certain demographics with SMALLVILLE, and there are people who feel that the demographics for ENTERPRISE and SMALLVILLE are different enough that it won't have much of an impact."
Berman also reveals that the recurring military characters may have variable numbers, with some roles sticking while others may fall by the wayside.
"They are going to be recurring characters," he says emphatically. "We're going to be bringing them along as needed and the ones that work and the ones we like, we'll be keeping, and the ones we don't, we won't. The number of these commandos - and I call them commandos because we're not exactly sure yet what we're going to be calling them - is going to be somewhat indeterminate. So, the casting can be quite fluid for us."
The exec also says that the Xindi's appearance has been decided and that it will be an interesting element of the new season
"We know very much what they will look like, but what they look like will be a very interesting plot point."
