Paramount Home Entertainment International will give fans in eight countries the chance to vie for the title of "Ultimate STAR TREK Expert" (and undisclosed prizes) beginning August 1st. International STAR TREK Guru 2003 is set to launch, according to a press release, for fans in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Australia.

Following up on last year's STAR TREK Guru competition, this year's search not only includes more countries, but more questions. The 2002 edition chose a winner from the UK and Germany based on 120 questions, with the former winning a trip to the STAR TREK NEMESIS London premiere and the latter a special visit to the STAR TREK sets in Los Angeles. Although prizes for Guru 2003 have not yet been announced, expect much more from this year's competition.

The Guru search will run for five months with a game of ten questions each week. The first person to correctly answer all ten each week will instantly win a prize. As participants progress toward the 200-plus question mark, the search will narrow until a winner is selected from each country.

Unlike last year's Guru, the 2003 edition will pit the winners from each country against each other to determine who is truly the International STAR TREK Expert.

You can pre-register now at www.startrekguru.com and the competition will go live August 1st.

My favorite Star Trek trivia question of all time never fails to stump people who haven't heard it before.

Question: Was James T. Kirk ever married?

Answer:Yes. He was married to Mirramanee in the episode The Paradise Syndrome

It's too bad that most people who use this website wouldn't have a chance because they dismiss a lot of new trek. I on the other hand, have seen every Voyager episode at least 4 times already (as I have every other episode), and each Ent episode more than once.

Let's see if I can accurately predict the make-up of the "winning" contestant...

Between 40-45 years old, balding (but with long hair in a ponytail), poor facial hair (most likely a goatee), glasses, rotten teeth, wearing super-hero T-shirts 2 sizes too small, a big beer-gut (not from beer, of course--more likely soda and McDonalds food), wears black jean shorts, with white socks and sneakers. Probably has no social skills whatsover (may be a mouth-breather). And if he's not single and a complete virgin, he's probably got a girlfriend who's also a Trekkie... and LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE HIM.

Who else but this stereotype could POSSIBLY have THAT MUCH "Star Trek" knowledge? And yes, it may be a stereotype, but these people EXIST. They're hanging out at your local comic shop right now...

The UK one pissed me off cus you never got to know your score - which to me is half the interest in taking part, whats the point if you don't find out how good you are or close you got?

Nemesis had all the right buttons there waiting to be pressed, but like Data on a Reman keypad Paramount seem to have pushed the wrong ones. :/

I am willing to bet the winner would be more than happy to do FREE script checking for continuity errors and general mistakes.
