Speaking at the recent Creation Entertainment convention in Las Vegas this past weekend, ENTERPRISE actor Connor Trinneer ('Trip') told fans that his character's relationship with Jolene Blalock's 'T'Pol' will expand in season three.

"She's helping him sleep," he said, according to a report on the event at TrekToday. "She's asked by the doctor to use Vulcan acupuncture to help him sleep."

The actor says that although their relationship os quite open-ended, romance probably won't be blossoming soon.

"If I were to predict, we'll get to know each other better," he said.

If there were to be a romance....

I suppose that if there were to be a romance between two primary characters, T'Pol and Trip would make the most logical choice. Other than Archer and the Doctor, no other characters on ENT have been fleshed-out enough to give us real drama if two of them were to pair up.

This early on into the show(I know, it's already season 3, but they haven't developed the characters like they should have yet) I do not think it is such a good idea. There is already too many plot threads with the TCW and the Expanse, there is no way the current writers could come up with a realistic and dramatic approach to a serious romance with 40 minutes of screen time. If we had the writers that DS9 had, then I believe they could weave together several of the progessive storylines ENT has going for it and still have enough left for a romance.

Getting back to it, I always thought from the first episode that they were going to pair up T'Pol and Trip. Remember when Trip was "pregnant", and T'Pol seemed almost jealous upon learning of his encounter with the alien female? There has always been good tension between them, and I almost sense a spark there. I was surprised they let that drop. With Archer, however, there is no way the writers could come up with a plausible reason to get the Captain and his first officer to become romantically involved. "A Night in Sickbay" sealed that for me.

Maybe if there was a love triangle leaving Archer jealous, and that could affect his command decisions and create a rift between Trip and himself. That has potential. This early on, it is still a bad idea until we get further into the show and let the writers (hopefully) continue to develop the characters.

"She's helping him sleep,"

So that's what they call it in the 22nd Century.

Sounds like they're hedging their bets

Trinneer is just being coy. Our characters may get together....or may not. TPTB want to tease the fans about it without committing to a romance. That's probably wise at this point. I've noticed that the possibility of T/T'P pairing up doesn't seem to have fans in as many knots as the possibility of Archer/T'Pol did. Interesting. Heck, I'm pleased that Trip and T'Pol are having a chance to interact again whether they end up snogging or not. The romance angle is irrelevant at this point. Trinneer and Blalock had a spark during season one that was neglected during season two. That was dumb. Written thoughtfully, her helping him sleep could play very well. Being plagued by nightmares to the point where you can't function (obviously if you're seeing the doctor) makes for a vulnerable person. I'm interested to see how this plays out; Trip being helped by T'Pol of all people. May as well ratchet up the tension. ENT needs to go all out this season. Sounds like a plan to me.

It's also telling that Trinneer echos Bakula's sentiments from his latest print interview about wanting Archer and Tucker to clash. Why not? They missed a golden opportunity after Cogenitor. ENT needs the conflict. Archer and Tucker's friendship is of longest standing. Shake things up by all means.
