T'Pol Blue With Envy: First Photo of New Low-Cut Costume, Plus "Rajiin" Set Report
PROMENADE

Posted: 07:11:45 on August 15 2003
By: Steve Krutzler
Dept: Enterprise | stenterprise.com
The official STAR TREK web site has revealed the much talked about new costume for Jolene Blalock's 'T'Pol' in four new photos from the season premiere, "The Xindi."

The new blue outfit maintains the character's form-fitting style and adds a low-cut v-neck down the center. With its belt, pastel hue, and white collar, the dud is reminiscient of the costumes from STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE.

The Associated Press visited the ENTERPRISE sets for the filming of the fourth episode, "Rajiin," and Blalock says she'll have some new hair to go with the new look. "[It's] slightly longer, slightly lighter," Blalock says. "But, of course, I wouldn't want to cover my ears!"

T'Pol isn't the only woman on the ENTERPRISE set reavealing a little skin with a new costume; actress Nikita Ager, who plays the concubine 'Rajiin' in the episode, says she was stunned when shown what she wears in her character's introduction.

"I've got bikinis bigger than the outfit Rajiin wears when she's first seen," Ager says. "The costumer arrived with what looked like a roll of string to be strategically placed. I went, this is STAR TREK? He went, 'Yep!'"

It no doubt comes in handy during the "girl fight" where Rajiin pins T'Pol to the ground in what is assuredly one of those famous ENTERPRISE "sensual" moments, according to the AP's report.

Read comments from actors Scott Bakula and Connor Trinneer and producer Rick Berman in the full set report. You can find the photos from "The Xindi" here. "The Xindi" premieres September 10th on UPN.

Losing path?

Okay, here's my little comment,

I hope they aren't going to change the show too much. The reason I like Enterprise is because it ISN'T like the other Star Trek series. This one focuses more on the characters then on action. I just hope they don't lose this spirit.

Anyway, there's my two cents. Anyone?

I noticed this part: "Series creators Rick Berman and Brannon Braga have created a story line that allows for weekly conflict and resolution, but is essentially a 26-episode mission, "where there is a ticking clock ... where Earth and humanity are at stake."

A 26 episode mission? Sounds like they are doing Voyager all over again. Instead of the Delta Quadrant we have the Expanse. Now that's original. So the expanse will be season three. What happened to exploration? What happened to the rest of the rest of outer space. New Life. New civilizations???

Maintaining continuity with TOS, sexy, and very Star Trek. Forget the bozos who cringe at the sight of a beautiful woman. They are probably ugly, jealous girls. Fact is, Sex and skin has been a staple of Star Trek since 'The Cage.'. We pioneered it

This outfit looks ridiculous!

Once again, B&B think this change is going to save Trek. How pathetic.

Will the anorexic Barbie doll action figure come with different colour outfits (like gold or red)?

Many of you people are writing that T'Pol's outfit is a "uniform" that is a precursor to TOS and TMP Trek. Can you please explain why that would be the case when T'Pol is clearly not in Starfleet (or the Earth equivalent). Isn't what she's wearing supposed to simply be a civilian outfit?

I don't get it. She's not envying anyone in the picture or in the plot, did I miss something? If we the viewers are envying, then why is she the blue one? The headline lost me.

The clue they have no idea what they are doing. If I want to see women wrestling, I'll turn on satallite and find something easily. When I watch Star Trek, this IS NOT what I want to see. this isn't star trek... at least, it's not what TNG and DS9 stood for. Bah. Go to hell B&B.

This is so ugly. Go back to the 60's berman. It's one thing to design a uniform that looks like in the 60's because you don't know any better, it's another thing to try an emulate it in the 21st century. Give me a break.

I'm sorry, but I don't think the show should be more like TOS, but not only do they have all the cowboy diplomacy, and triangle friendship, they are designing the uniforms like it too.

How about a ship design guys? Let's use cardboard boxes instead of metal and plastic control planels instead of software led displays.

Jolene said she had a hand in designing the look of the outfit and I believe she said she was a fan of TOS. So the TOS-esque nature of it makes sense.

Actually, it IS TOS-like
By MikeNinNH ( ) at 12:05:07 on August 15 2003

I think it's actually TOS-like. For one, the shade of blue is VERY close to the shade worn by Spock and other science officers; The V-Neck isn't any worse than that on the TOS women's uniform, the collar is white instead of TOS's black, but that's about all. It's missing the miniskirt half but maybe they figured the miniskirt would be too outrageous right now, or would be TOO much like the TOS uniforms.

I like this uniform, its consistant with the style of TOS. Its not the same, but is has that same essence that Spocks uniform had. I don't understand the complaints, I guess Trek fans are too used to complaining all the time, that they don't know what else to do.

I must say, I am surprised. Her catsuit actually looks...almost TOSish? Maybe thats a good sign.

But another "sensual" scene? A Catfight? Well, I'll try not to pass judgement until I see it...but I have my doubts.

Despite that complaint though, I think season 3 is setting up to be some great stuff.

That they are still using tight outfits as a ratings grabber.
I think this may just backfire on them.

One question, how the hell does she go to the bathroom in this?

Finally, something that looks like a precursor of Kirk's 23rd century.

That suit could have been civilian wear in The Cage. Except that it should have a mini-skirt then.

I love it.

Another report on the visuals

She's still wearing catsuits! Lighter colours even means we can easier see the "landscape" on screen. But if they resemble the TOS uniforms (I wouldn't know) then at least, it's got some logic.

I read things about action, crazy fun, vases being thrown across the room, actors with bruises. Okay, it was a SET report. I gotta remember that! So it's not supposed to tell about the writers. But I hope there is equally much brainpower dedicated to writing stories with content for the deep thinking minds. To make reason out of each character, and to learn something about humanity by watching the show. This is not meant as hard critics against anyone! I would just be interested in an article, about how the writers sit in a room and seriously lives into the characters they write.

T'pols new outfit is just not happening for me, she looks like a nurse...a nurse from the 70's. In fact if she shaved her head she could mind meld with V'ger.

I've been watching Season 4 of DS9, and so far I haven't seen any aliens arriving in string bikinis, hmmm I wonder why? Maybe its because they had good writing and characters to work with. Hell I loved the miniskirts in the 60's but it was just fashion and always had some taste. I have the sinking feeling ENT could be spiraling into Bay Watch..you know Big action and BIg Boobs.

Glad shes got rid of that drab grey suit, this new costume brings some new colour onto the black 'n blue set and it looks nicer too!

And before you moan about the costume I recommend watching a few dozen TOS episodes and remember Lt Ilias costume from TMP :P Sexy women in skimpy outfits have ALWAYS been a part of Trek.

Now this is a STAR TREK uniform!!!!

She still needs some Vulcan insignia of some sort (or did she quit being an official Vulcan operative?), but this contributes greatly to the spirit of Star Trek. I can only imagine that the uniforms will change for the rest of the crew, if not right now, then sometime in the next year or two.

I predict that her action figure will sell quite well!
