The official STAR TREK web site has posted a new 13-image photo gallery of the ENTERPRISE cast from its upcoming third season. The photos feature close-ups of Scott Bakula as 'Jonathan Archer' with a new short haircut, and Jolene Blalock's 'T'Pol' with a longer, looser hair style and her new blue and red catsuits.

Additional photography also highlights one of the season's new sets, the new Command Center in which the crew will debate strategy against the Xindi inside the Expanse. For larger versions, check out this page.

ENTERPRISE premieres on UPN September 10th.

The Lighting...and bigger pics, please?
By SirTrekker ( shauenstein@wi.rr.com) at 11:35:32 on August 29 2003

Folks, I think the lighting we're seeing is just for the photo shoot. I have a feeling we won't actually see that on the show. They're probably just using that lighting for dramatic effect. I seriously doubt we'll see that on the new season, as nice as it would be.

Also, is there any chance someone out there has bigger versions of these pictures (bigger than even the ones at StarTrek.Com)? I'd like to have pics for my desktop, and I'd like not to need a damn microscope to see the faces in the cast pics. If any of you know where bigger versions of the photos can be found, e-mail me: shauenstein@wi.rr.com .

As for the pics themselves, sure, they all look great, but it's about the story and how the characters deal with the events within, not how they look while they're doing it. I won't give a damn about T'Pol's hairstyle if her character doesn't grow and expand like they're promising it will. It won't matter to me in the slightest that Archer's jumpsuit shows a little more undershirt if he's still the same wishy-washy commanding officer he's been. We're here to watch a Star Trek show that is supposed to be honoring, as well as echoing, the richness and complexity, not to mention the drama and excitement that the best of TREKs past have offered, not to watch The Official Enterprise Fashion Show.

If they give us a good storyline this year, with lots of gripping drama, decent character development, shocking consequences and twists that would make M. Night Shyamalan take notice, and the clothes and hair will be just a byproduct of a TREK that has finally found itself.

Well, I like the photos, anyway...

I always thought that the overall color-scheme of ENTERPRISE was duller than dirt. I missed the multi-colored backgrounds of old TOS episodes, where they'd have white or gray walls, but snazz it up by pointing rainbow colors all over. We're finally getting that feeling now. It LOOKS good... but again, if Berman and Braga are the helm of the writing department, I fear all will be for naught.

Same as with NASA

When Star Trek first began, the American space program had direction. Perhaps the current state of Star Trek reflects the current state of our space program: Rudderless. Just as with NASA, I hope the current changes for Enterprise are successful, but I don't see an overall direction for Enterprise after the Xindi arc ends.

Again, the people want to complain...

Ok, so we all understand that the new costumes, makeup and hairdos isn't going to dramatically change Enterprise in to something of great fortune, however, it's the combination of a large number of these small things that will change Enterprise.

A slight "X-Files" twist to some of the storylines is just the beginning of good writing. Accompanied with the fact that we now have an arc and a continuing storyline base to which to work off of, it's called "development of storylines". Lastly, we have a serious threat to Earth and with Enterprise gone in the Expanse, think how vulnerable Earth is to other species who wish to take on Starfleet. Klingon, Romulan (Romulan Wars anyone?), Suliban if they wanted to. The last never stops of possibilities.

I for one am greatly looking forward to the 3rd Season of Enterprise. Yes, we will have the makeup, hairdo, and costume changes, but we will also see a new command center (Briefing Room anyone?), new military-like agents, M.A.C.O. (red shirts anyone?), not to mention the whole awe and mystery of the 3rd season. And lastly, got to give kudos to the advertising that Paramount has released for Season 3, which features the return of the words "Star Trek". So hopefully, we will see that adaptation spread in to the opening credits. I think they should change the opening credits and hope to see that they do, simply because the opening credits do not justify the 3rd Season in ANY WAY. The opening credits should become more of a cross between space travel and war-like scenes. Kind of like Andromeda, but let's hope a little bit better than that.

Does this mean we now have Tailor and Barber?

So if there are new clothes and hairstyles, does this mean there are now a tailor and barber/stylist on board? does the crew continue to pretend they're Karen Walker from Will & Grace and call them by the function (e.g. Chef)?

Just superficial

New uniforms, new haircuts, and hardened expressions mean absolutely nothing. The question still remains, will the writing be any better this season? And it really doesn't matter what cool stories are spoiled, or what Braga says about the direction of show this season. It's still all about the execution. The coolest story in the world can't save a poorly written script. For those people who have been dissatisfied with Enterprise, nothing reported here is really a source for hope. The same people are in charge, the same writers are involved, the main cast is still the same. Haircuts don't change short, undramatic teasers or compressed fourth acts with rushed resolutions. Hard looks don't change weak pacing or horrid dialoge. And new uniforms, however much cleavage they show, don't make up for bad acting.

Maybe the new direction will inspire the writers. We won't know until we actually see an episode.

Hairspray

I have absolutely no response to the new hair styles. If they want to hype a new hairstyle it had better be a dramatic change, Like when Sisko shaved his head. Nobody cared when Worf got longer hair, same old Worf.

Bakula has got a big head, I'm not sure what hairstyle would work for him. T'pol, she's so fashion queen now with the catsuits, hair, and lips, I've given up on her. She's no vulcan, she's pinup doll.

Enough already!

I wish they'd give us something better than the friggin' catsuits and hairdos already! Is this all they have to give us to chew on? I want to read what the writers are saying! This is turning into a hair and fashion show.

Okay, so we know how they're going to look this season, great. Now, can we have a few hints about some of the general ideas they're going to bring us? All this crap about T'Pol's uniform has absolutely nothing to do with what STAR TREK is about. I want to know if there are going to be any stories that actually leave the viewer saying "whoa, that was good!" as the end credits roll.

The costumes and hair is not what makes this STAR TREK, they could be performing in burlap sacks with paper bags over their heads, and if the storytelling is there, it would be STAR TREK.

This is all just surface stuff. On some level, I guess they need to do this so that people who don't have the slightest idea of what STAR TREK is will watch the show.

They really need to produce a new promo spot, the one they're running did it's part. It's time to entice the audience a little more with some ideas that will make people want to watch. If I wanted to look at hair and makeup pictures I would just pick up my girlfriend's copy of COSMOPOLITAN and flip through it.

Let's have some STAR TREK please! You know, that little science fiction show that revolutionized science fiction for television!

When I looked at the third picture on the right was TOS. I like it a lot. I always wondered how they will pull off the transition from Enterprise's modern look to TOS's retro look. Good job!

Does anyone else have this problem? For the last week or two, I have not been able to get to startrek.com. When I first tried it days ago, it would take me to some totally unrelated site when I typed startrek.com. Today, when I try to click on that link, it says page cannot be displayed. If I type startrek.com today, it says the same thing.

Any clues?

Impressions...

I don't know if it was intentional, but Archer's new look seems to fit in with how he's supposedly feeling in the aftermath of the Xindi attack. But, you'd expect Trip to look ten times more haggard and drained. Say what you will about catsuits, but the color choice is very evocative of the TOS uniforms. Maybe she'll be the Federation Starfleet's fashion consultant?
