The crew of the NX-01 will take their mission to defend Earth against the Xindi into the 21st century this November, in "Carpenter Street." As alluded to by produer Rick Berman last month, the Sweeps episode will travel back to the present day.

According to the first plot information on the episode provided TrekWeb, a Xindi agent in Detroit must be stopped from funneling unsuspecting people to their deaths using a blood bank as a cover. Archer and T'Pol must travel back and encounter police officers, pan handlers, and prostitutes in this new front against the Xindi.

This information is preliminary and subject to change. The story is, however, © Paramount Pictures.

Goota have something to draw the audience in and they always fall back on Time Travel.
They have already used the Borg and they tried to get William Shatner...

insert standard "no time travel! no!" rant here.

With that out of the way, I'm interested in how they explain how NX-01 moves that far not only in time but also in space. After all, they're supposed to be pretty far distant from Earth, and moving farther away (presumably) with each episode as they move deeper into the Expanse. I could see a handful of crew doing the GATEOF bit and walking thru yet another magic portal that takes you anywhere...but if the whole damn ship goes, I will find that irksome. As someone already pointed out, this is smacking a wee bit much of Time's Arrow, which was a terribly weak two-parter; its saving grace was the fact that it wasn't contemporary.

Still, if they have to go back in time to stop evil beings from killing humans under the guise of a blood bank... shouldn't they go back in time to Sunnydale, CA, circa 2000? *snark*

Why always normal America? The audience can see that anyday, why not actually set these damn time travel eps somewhere interesting in history, and be truly diverse/imaginative?

Ancient India, China or Egypt? WW3? Its not like budget is too much of a concern these days.

This seems like a bad idea

I dunno, I like the new and improved ENTERPRISE, but this seems like a bad idea, thematically speaking. Why does it always have to be the U.S. that they travel back in time to? Why not Kiev, Russia in the 50s? Why not Palestine just after the crucifixion? Why not pay a visit to the ancient Aztecs, ancient Vikings, ancient Africa? According to the whole time travel idea, any even tampered with could theoretically alter the timeline. Why does it always seem to be during the past 200 years in the United States. It seems to me that the franchise needs to open up it's world view a little bit, especially given the type of show that it is and all that it entails regarding the future of humanity. They're really limiting the kinds of stories they can tell by going to Detroit of all places... Detroit? Why not Kalamazoo?

Hmm. An episode set in present day Detroit named after a street.

If Archer enters a rap competition, I'll be really upset. ;)

"City on the Edge of Forever" + "Time's Arrow" + "Future's End" = "Carpenter Street"
