Actors
Kate Mulgrew ('Janeway') and
Dwight Scultz ('Barclay') talk with
Gamespy about their work upcoming real-time strategy game LORDS OF EVERQUEST. Mulgrew says she's fascinated by the contradiction of voicing a 182-year old character, who only appears to be around 30 according to the site.
"I will go as old as 500 years, that's the payoff," Mulgrew says. "The voice is old, but the physicality is young. I think that's part of the magic of this game."
Mulgrew says she's fond of games, but not a player herself.
"I raised three kids, and I lived in a world of video games, and all I could do at night was to pray to god for a big martini and a break from the whole mess."
Schultz, who has lent his voice to many game such as FINAL FANTASY X and STAR TREK: ELITE FORCE, says the writing in the game is critical.
"Well, it's different in that the dialogue is a lot better than FINAL FANTASY," he says of EVERQUEST. "Most of the time, the satisfaction you get has to do with the dialogue and the character. And sometimes they're very generic and there's nothing there to play, and then other times they're written very well."
The actor says he's always been a gamer.
"I've been into video games all my life. I had the original Atari, and now we've got a PlayStation. My first computer was a Commodore 64, and I had all the games for that, but now I only allow myself one game: MEDAL OF HONOR."
