STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE will become the first UPN show to be broadcast in the super-sharp high-definition format (HDTV) beginning tomorrow night, October 15th. According to
Audio Revolution, CBS and UPN have partnered with Zenith to debut ENTERPISE and JAKE 2.0 in the HDTV format.
CBS has already broadcast prime time television series and sporting events in the format, which offers resolution six times sharper than traditional television signals. CBS president
Leslie Moonves says HD is the future.
"We've very pleased Zenith is partnering with CBS for the third year in a row to sponsor our primetime comedies and dramas in high-def, and we are very excited to be working with them on UPN's first ever HDTV broadcasts, which serves as a giant step toward a sharper, clearer future,” Moonvest said in a release.
UPN's entertainment president
Dawn Ostroff says ENTERPRISE is the perfect candidate for the super-sharp debut.
"STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE and JAKE 2.0 are the perfect shows for UPN to make its high definition television debut as we showcase the spectacular special visual effects of these shows with the richness and clarity of HDTV images,” she said. “This is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to expanding our high-definition broadcast to other nights of our schedule.”
ENTERPRISE will be delivered using the highest HDTV format, 1080i, which offers 1080 lines of picture resolution, for a total of over two million picture elements. ENTERPRISE is filmed in high-def.
